I’d also think deep and honestly about why he wouldn’t talk to your family OP. Or his friends? Maybe he just went off randomly with one friend? Like I said, could be as simple as he went on a hunting trip and he didn’t have the time to get a new phone before leaving.
But if there’s something darker, I’d strongly consider that also.

@14:57 on 9/1 subject had narcotics and drug paraphernalia….. 14:57 is pretty damn close to “about 5:30”

According to records, he was arrested on 9/1 at 17:29 and released an hour later, 18:29 with a citation. Matches up with the 16:57 Narcotics arrest on the Hermosa Beach Police report

Judging by the the recent pic vs an older pic he looks strung out. Working in the restaurant biz and recently divorced and basically couch surfing. OP hasn’t mentioned the child’s mother or his parents. Not trying to to pile on the OPs difficult situation but drugs might be the culprit here.

A brother of my wife’s friend( no pics of either) went missing. Family was going bat shite crazy. Turns out he had checked into rehab After a month passed he contacted family. Just a thought.

I find it odd that he was moving out of his apartment without having another place 100% lined up to move straight into. Have you talked to the previous landlord? Was he paying his rent?
I think the living arrangement should be explored further. Crashing with a friend is something we did in college not for someone who has a stable job.
Where are all of his things? (Furniture etc)
My instinct says drug issues as I have seen it before. This may not be an ideal situation but he can definitely get past this with help.

After looking at his fb profile, I fear it's drugs/depression issue. Seemed he was on the up and up and then a brutal series of events could've sent him into a dark spiral. I'm putting my detective hat on and thinking of anything I can come up with but it's all leading me towards drugs especially given a recent break up and working in restaurant industry.
The good news is though that he might be on a bender, but is alive. Praying for OP. If y'all find him, long road to recovery but love on him and get him the help he needs. Every angle here including PTSD or even complications from accident all lead to needing rehab/counseling/detox.
Did you see if he was prescribed pain killers from accident? If so, he may abuse or someone might have knew he got them and foul play involved.

Seems like I would be focusing my time with work people at the restaurant. Even if someone says they didn’t know him well, find out who at work he knew the best. Someone knows where he went for industry night drinks after work. Work that angle.

Good idea to call up veteran agencies in the area. They will help a fellow servicemember
I’d find out his local watering holes and figure out some regulars and talk to them about the area, people that were suspicious a few weeks ago, etc
