I had a bad experience with mine. Lost her when the baby was a month old. Good luck!

Late baby, no?

Seems like as good of place as any. I have an AQHA bred mare that's no longer fit for saddle I'm selling as a brood mate. She is actually a reg paint and will be sold to w kill buyer if I can't pass her off on someone else

Congrats OP on the baby. I use to love when it came time to catch colts and put halter a and drag lines on them

i just found my dads broodmare dead in the pasture a couple of days ago with a 4 week old trying to nurse. hes over seas on a trip in the holy land.

i am not prepared for this type of shite. had to get the body out of there and bring a wet mare that took about twelve hours to find, then took about two days before she would let the foal nurse. we also have a yearling that i dont think would have played to nice to leave them all together. alot of stall/ pasture rotating. all while not telling my dad because he loved that horse so much, i didnt want to ruin his trip. he comes back today, so now i have to drum it all back up and tell him when he gets
home.

That sucks. Glad you found a nurse mare. We had a great one for my colt. Lost the mare to colic, so it didn't really have anything to do with foaling, but I still feel like it was somehow my fault.

How old was the mare?

she was 20-22. from what i found out from my uncle, the delivery didnt go very well, and the 2 week post check by the vet said she wasnt eating much and she was really thin.
this was her last foal.

she was huge, and the foal is big (tall) and the nursemare we got out there is nothing special. she may still be nursing by the time she catches up to her size wise
that mare lost a foal to coyote, thats why she was available.
