I started add meds again in Dec but decided to get back off of them this month. I took them a couple years as a kid but I wouldn't take them right, would trade with friends, would snort them to be cool, so got taken off of them
If my hoodlum arse would have stayed on them and taken them right I may have been more successful with my studies.... :/

Like most everything else in life, it's not the one thing or the other. It is both plus more.
There are kids that are thriving with the medication that were unable to reasonably focus and control themselves without it.
And there are also many teachers (mostly female in my personal view) that would readily drug many boys in order to control them better. It does happen.

There is nothing wrong with active, impulsive, intelligent children. Stop letting the schools tell you different.
In general, I agree with your post. I HATE adhd drugs and think they are prescribed waaaaaaaay too often.
BUT, if your kid is a constant interruption in class (I've seen this myself), the issue needs to be solved somehow.
Your kid is likely an obstacle to the learning process for the other kids in his class who are capable of performing the task at hand without disrupting others.
Obviously, I've never met your child so maybe my characterization is off in this case. But, assuming your child is similar to the one's I'm talking about, it's wrong to allow him to be a hinderance to the learning process of the others.
In other words, if your kid doesn't have a legitimate problem that requires medicine, that pretty much means that you should be able to teach him to be within the norm from a behavior perspective. Why can't you do that?

Yup!
The one thing I think parents have a hard time understanding.
It is your job to think about your child it is my job to think about all of the children.

BigEd has to be trolling now. I mean c'mon, you mean to tell me you can make a child overcome bipolar disorder or other chemical imbalances, like ADHD, by "good parenting"?
frick it, let the kids figure it out on their own.

Let me thank you for your post. Very well thought out.
My son is one of those kids who is a disruption. I know he is. He's so far past his classmates he gets bored and goofs off all day.
He doesn't act that way when I'm around. Why? Because I'll whoop his arse and he knows it.
Too bad the school won't. I'd let them.
But although he may hinder little johnny from learning his ABCs, why is it OK for his classmates to hold him back to their slow pace of digesting information?

Sounds like you didn't really need it. You should watch me try to study in the library for a perfect example of someone who needs it.
I can only study and do homework at my house, at my computer desk. Literally nowhere else. Even there, I will constantly get up and do other stuff.
On the right amount of Adderall, I am completely normal

Well if you really feel this way why don't you move him and put him in advanced classes or put him in a school that moves at a faster pace.

ou hit the nail on the head with the "lazy" description. I graduated HS 23 years ago and no one + or - 5 years of my age took any meds like this because parenting was the medication. Parents are too lazy to parent and just slam some meds down their childs throat. It calms them down and makes for less time for them to parent and rear their children. It's how things have evolved over the years and it's sad to see these kids loose their identities because of the zombie meds.
this. It's interesting how many people swear by it and think they were robbed or could've made it farther.

Is he not scared of reprocussions at home for acting up in school?
Teachers can only discipline to a certain point. If you are not reinforcing at home he won't give a shite.

We fought it at first and then we went with meds. Was and still is a huge help with making grades. We have tried going without for a while but even my son at one point admitted he needed them when in school.
Like every med there are side effects like loss of appetite but overall it has helped my son along with counseling.

Seriously I was in a thread last night where the topic was spanking children. Opinions varied of course but the one thing that struck me was this. People are so easy to conform to the so called "new" thing. ADHD, drug them. Spanking, don't ever. Play outside, to many dangers. All this is so new in regards to the history of raising our children yet some people would do anything someone else told them was good. It's as if we've lost our creativity as mature adults to think for ourselves anymore. Has the government truly succeed in making us mindless followers. The guy in this film is so right in my opinion when he says that we've taking away our creativity and almost punish for it now. School will not succeed anymore until ipads are in every class and the main source of learning period. Because that's what today is. Books themselves bore children before they even open them. I truly wish we could get back in touch with who we are instead of being what we are told to be. Gluten free, can't workout unless you cult fit, ADHD, don't vaccinate, don't believe in Jesus but believe in Larry Stockstill or the curly headed freak show making 10's of millions dollars a year telling people the things they already are. Which is great and amazing and talented. We've lost that belief in ourselves and now we're losing that belief in our children.

Because ascension parish would rather inflate school scores by refusing to have a magnet program. I have no options.

I see your point here but that's apples and oranges. You can learn to control ADHD as evidenced by the people who were diagnosed as adults (myself included). Bipolar is whole different and much bigger ball of wax.
