My awkward time at the ABC store

Me, walking in: Hey, nobody's here!
She, behind the counter: Are you a nobody?
Me: Ha! Good one. Where's the gin?
She: You know, I usually don't like to talk about religion, especially with strangers, but what kind of religion blows up other people like that? And somebody you work with!
Me: Well, it's more than just about religion. It's also about being a minority. It's about thinking someody else hates you for what you are. And then little incidents pile up. You exaggerate them in your mind, and then you can no longer tolerate it. You explode.
And then it hit me that I was talking to a black person, and she suddenly had no interest in talking to me any more.
