how many of the “it’s a product of its environment” posters actually have young children and a pitbull?

Much like children, dog's are a product of their environment.

Not discounting the role of environmental factors, you’d be surprised just how much one’s genetic makeup influences temperament and even voluntary behaviors. John Locke’s “tabula rasa“ has been disproven many times over.

And Pitbulls are the antisocial personality disorder of the dog world

If I know the person well enough to trust that they’d do whatever it takes to protect my kid, I’m good with it. But if it’s more of a casual relationship—like, I don’t even know if you’ve got siblings—then absolutely not. No chance.

My family raised pit bulls my whole life. My younger cousin was around them constantly. When his son was born, they did everything right: brought home a blanket with the baby’s scent, used the pacifier trick, introduced the dog slowly. Still, two days after they brought the baby home, one of the female pits completely snapped.

His wife was changing the baby on the table when the dog started growling and lunging at them. She turned to tell the dog to back off—and the dog launched. Knocked her down and tore into her face. Ripped off most of her right ear.

My cousin heard the screaming, ran upstairs, pulled the dog off her, and didn’t hesitate. Took the dog out back, shot her, and buried her. No second chance granted.

frick a pit bull.

The entire breed needs to be eradicated

The mindset of a person who wants to own a pitbull tells you all you need to know.

They're only a desirable breed foe one reason.

The look mean and vicious. (Spoiler alert: they 99.999% of the time live up to their reputation)

People who desire them want them for this very reason. You should not trust that they will raise them to not be what they want them to be.

Don't look at the dog. Look the dog's owners.

Stfu you idiot. I adopted one after it was abandoned after an eviction. Didn't seek it. But turns out hes the best damn dog I've owned. Anyone with the mindset to eradicate the breed need to be eradicated themselves. Grow some fricking balls pussies

Pit bulls are shite dogs for shite people.

If you had balls you wouldn't need to compensate with a pit bull.

In the early/md 80's i lived with 3 roommates and a "Huge" pit bull. At the time I didn't know that he was a pit bull. "Pit Bull" wasn't the common term as it is today. Mind you, this was years before a certain sub-culture adopted Pit Bull's as their own and destroyed the breed and it's reputation. All I knew was that he was a loved member of the family and a big 150 lb baby that constantly demanded "cuddles". It was many years later when the old roomates were reminiscing that I was told he was a Pit Bull.

Let them know the friend is more than welcome to come over or they can go somewhere for fun, but my son will no longer be going there.

Concerns about a pit bull are valid.

I guess what I'm trying to say is...

Before Gangsta Rap music Pit Bulls weren't aggressive or dangerous.

First of all, you named 3 different breeds which are not comparable to one another.

Second, do you actually think your logic of "I've been around pitbulls before and didn't get attacked" somehow invalidates the risk concern regarding having one's child around pitbulls? You think someone is being "soft" for wanting to mitigate the risk of their child being potentially maimed by a breed of dog notorious and documented for being hyper aggressive and uniquely dangerous due to their biological makeup?

My 9 year old has a very good friend and they have a mixed pitbull. He went over once and when I found out he’s never gone back. Talked to his mother and said her son is welcome anytime to our house but I wasn’t taking the chance. Told her she could blame it on my ignorance but I’m not taking any chance with the mix breed of peace. We all still get along fine.

Best way to handle it.

They can still be friends…just not at the friend’s house. Same call as if some sketchy uncle lived there.
