Think I still have one of their big mugs in a cabinet somewhere

The TA’s mug had a small hole drilled on the side of the bottom so that the water would drain if you put it in a dishwasher.

Is it going to be owned by the same owner as Fred's like before?

They brought it back in '99 or '00, but it did not last long. Since they were under scrutiny for the bid night death a couple years before, they were Nazi's on enforcing underage drinking. Other bars would just take the drink away if they happened to see you holding it. Murphy's had active enforcement with spotters and kicked you out if you were caught. I was clever at hiding it but they still saw me and kicked me out. That was the first and only time I went. I think that enforcement limited their market and they collapsed. I ate lunch there one day and it completely sucked, so there was nothing to offer with the food.

Closed when SAE pledge drank himself to death, partially at Murphy's, thought it was fall 96, but maybe fall 97, just before 1st football game.
Anyone recall more details?

I’ve got my giant TAs Tavern mug. That was the back part of what is the Chimess now. I use it to wash my dog!

Ben Wynne. He got hammered before he went to Murphys at an off campus apartment from what i remember. . Murphys served him as well though so they got the blame for his death. It was bullshite, IMO, cause the kid did it to himself. But Murphy's was a convenient target to villify.

per an Advocate article:
quote:

drinking more than two dozen alcoholic beverages, including a deadly concoction of Jagermeister, Crown Royal and 151-proof rum.

he didnt drink all of that at Murphys. He was on a bender long before he went to the bar as I recall.

Evidently withdrew $100 from Hibernia ATM on quarter beer night. Woke up with receipt and $20 bill next morning with zero recollection of night before.

TA's ain't that where LSU Rugby would have "heifer hunts?" As I recall the full figured ladies would show up.
