I had extrapolated 165 when we broke the record a few months ago. Looks like we're on pace.

Surely we've had enough murders by now that the First 48 should start filming.

They came out and set up to ride along with the BRPD. The first night one of the cameramen was carjacked and shot. They packed up and left.

Still got double digit days left in the year.

At least 143 people have lost their lives to violence parishwide since the start of 2021, leaving police and local leaders deeply frustrated, desperate for peace and struggling to support a host of grieving families.

If only we had a place where someone could find the exact number from an official.

Eh. Nah. Let’s just cut it wayyyy low and add “at least” to make it look better

Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul was driving to a Crime Stoppers meeting when he received news of the Evangeline Street shooting, so he made a detour and stopped by the scene. He chatted with residents outside the crime tape, including Roderick Sterling, and bemoaned the pandemic challenges that experts believe are responsible for significant increases in gun violence in cities across the nation.

The chief referenced 9 square miles of Baton Rouge where most violent crimes occur, emphasizing a point he makes often about the small number of people and places responsible for the vast majority of crime, though his agency would not provided specifics on what the chief considers its problem area.

What specifically related to the pandemic is causing high homicides 2 years later? The vast majority of the state/city is back to normal and has been for awhile. You might have to wear a mask in a government building or something but that doesn't make me want to shoot my neighbor

He claims it's because the courts are backed up and letting suspected murderers bond out for months and years. These assholes own not only the law enforcement divisions, but the judicial system as well. How about not letting suspected murderers bond out on $10k bonds.
