Depends on the kid. I had full access and hunted / shot regularly. I was also responsible and was taught by responsible parents.

Sure and I get that. But I was a responsible kid and as a parent I'm not trusting 16 year old me with a firearm, but more importantly I'm not trusting 16 year old me's friends with my firearm.

Why risk it? I'm just saying come in and put the gun away when its done being used and ask to take it out. Seems simple enough

Oh, and in the meeting with the parents on the day of the shooting, in the school, after the kid had drawn a note depicting a shooting, a person bleeding, a bullet, and "the thoughts won't stop" and "the world is dead"...no one thought to ask either the kid or the parents where the gun was at that time.

It was in his backpack and two hours later 4 kids were dead and a bunch more shot.

It's unreal.

Apparently now they're headed back to the area to be arraigned.

Correct me if I am wrong. Please. I am trying to piece things together.

Ethan was found by a teacher searching up ammunition on his cell phone.

The school reported it to the parents via phone call message and e-mail.

The parents didn't care to respond to the school. They texted Ethan joking about it. They told him not to get caught next time.

Another instance that occurred. Ethan drew a picture of himself shooting people and saying his life was worthless and everybody else had to die, etc. A teacher saw this picture and took a picture of it. The school told the parents about this and suggested he needed to get counseling. The parents did not agree that their son needed counseling. The school told them to take their son home? The parents did not care to look at his drawings or about anything he was drawing. They didn't even care to see if he had the gun they just bought for him.

The parents didn't care or think anything was wrong with him, so when he returned he murdered all these people?

While Ethan was doing his shooting spree his mother text him and said, "Ethan please don't do it."

White Ethan was doing his shooting spree his father went ahead and called 911 to claim his gun was "stolen." Some suggest he was covering his own butt here. I don't know. "I think my son did it, I think he's the shooter."

Now the parents are being charged for involuntary manslaughter for every single victim?

I think you have it correct. And I think that the mom text and dad "holy shite I'm calling 911 because my gun is missing" were reactive moves when they realized he actually did it to try and save themselves.

ETA: I think the dad said "his" gun was missing, but that was clearly not how it was positioned up to that point...it was the kid's gun that they gave him.

Yea after reading those details, I'm not surprised the parents were charged.

I'm willing to bet the kid probably had a conversation with his parents beforehand about what he was going to do
"Mom, Dad. I hate everyone. I'm going to kill everyone at my school"

Parents: "Hahahaha you're so funny Ethan. You are such a jokester. Anyways, we decided we'd get you your Christmas gift early. Here's the gun that you wanted. And remember, "don't be like Ralphie, you'll shoot your eye out kid"

Ethan:"You won't have to worry about that. I'm going to be too busy shooting other people's eyes out"

Parents: "Hahahaha quit joking so much son hahaha."
