Giddy up!

The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced that miniature horses are officially allowed to fly as service animals in all cabins of commercial planes, as part of a new set of guidelines strengthening protections for emotional support and psychiatric service cats, dogs and the tiny equines.

Last Thursday, the agency released its final statement of enforcement priorities for service animals, clarifying the federal government's policies for what types of animals should always be allowed to travel with their owners.

In recent months, both public and professional organizations, including the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA), have urged lawmakers to review the rules for service animal designations during air travel, to combat an alleged culture of "rampant abuse" of protocol. The AFA claimed that the matter was escalating into a "safety, health, and security issue" that was "negatively affecting all passengers."

"After reviewing the comments on this issue, we believe that it would be in the public interest and within our discretionary authority to prioritize ensuring that the most commonly recognized service animals (i.e., dogs, cats, and miniature horses) are accepted for transport," the department's Aug. 8 update stated.

Do they have to buy a seat for it? Can it be the middle seat so I don't have to sit by their sweaty owner?

Technically only dogs and mini horses can be service animals and more people are going with horses due to the longer life span. Service animals are trained and perform tasks.

All those other crazy animals listed are just emotional support animals.

Going to be a bull market for tiny horses.

Every emotional person with money will HAVE to have a tiny horse. Status symbol.

Now, if I get drunk on their watered down drinks and try to ride that little fricker up and down the aisle they better just look the other way, start playing Old Town Road, and let me have my fun.

So full sized horses can’t be service animals too? Seems they could work in tandem with the dog.

Aren't you the guy who raises long horns or something like that? Is there such a thing as a miniature long horn? If so, I NEED one of those as my emotional support animal.

Right. The mini horses were supposed to be for handicapped people who needed service animals but were allergic to dogs.

Service animals =/= emotional support animals

Service animals are for legitimately handicapped people. Emotional support animals are for pussies.

You can't have peanuts on a plane but you can now bring on a freaking horse!?!?

frick that!! I can't be around a horse for more than a minute before I have an uncontrollable allergy attack. I'd probably die if I had to sit anywhere near a horse for an hour or two.

See above description on the difference. They said service animal, not an emotional support animal. If someone is sad and wants a mini horse they’ll have to shell out $$$ for a highly trained, approved, and useful service animal if they want to fly with it.

A friend of mine just adopted a couple of mini horses and is working to train them as service animals. She walks them in the neighborhood and everyone wants their pictures taken with them.

Sorry bud, you better just make sure you have your epi pen in a belt holster and someone on that flight cares about you more than the damn horse.
Mini horse > Human.
