Most things can be boiled down to poor people being dumb and making bad decisions.

which is why its completely disingenuous to lump all of these stats together

the OT is mostly college educated, middle to upper class millennials

we are the successful cohabitators, so its weird to preach about how terrible it is to the OT

if you have to "test" living together to make sure the marriage will work you are not with the right person.

For frick's sake. The world isn't black and white. Every couple is different.

If you waited till marriage to live with your wife, and you didn't have major surprises living together, you're right. You two boring assholes were made for each other.

So how is it better if these trashy people get married and then divorce?

people would be far less likely to have (multiple) kids if they aren’t living together. Better decisions would be made w/o the option of instant gratification (cohabitation and starting a little fake family).

And I do think a divorce is probably a better situation than the father of bastard child (with the mothers last name) having the option of just leaving.

You DECIDE to love them. This is what makes marriages last.

OK. That doesn't really rebut what I said. I'm saying you should ideally have more data before making that decision. Nobody buys a house without looking at the inside first. And spare me the "we're talking about people not houses."

I'm not saying moving in together prior to marriage is an absolute pre-requisite, nor that it should make you give up on a person because you found out they load the dishwasher wrong. But learning more about the person and testing the waters to see if you can compromise and make it work isn't a bad idea before you make a lifelong commitment. To completely ignore how you'll co-habitate and just presume that "love will overcome" is a bit rash. We're not living in a Lifetime movie.

Think it should be a no brainier to live together first. Would lower divorce rate bigly

Try again bucko. Study after study over the years has concluded that cohabitation leads to higher divorce rates and newer studies show at best it makes no difference.

The only real point you made in this rambling is the mother's last name part.

Right.

The most important thing in all of this is seemingly socioeconomic status.

The facts are that poor people cohabitate more, get divorced more often, and have children out of wedlock more often.

Low IQ people make poor decisions. This is nothing new.

Most of the past studies that are comparing cohabitation vs non-cohabitation for married couples are adjusting for socio-economic class.

By now you've almost certainly bumped uglies so you know you're sexually compatible.

Wait until you're officially licensed to frick before shacking up.

Yes. It is a selective sample. Not demographically consistent with the rest of the population.

I'm not officially married but what about moving in with someone you're engaged with?
