I used to travel to Vancouver for work a few times a year and loved the city. Really pretty there if you can handle the whackos.

You should go. Lots of walking around so be prepared for lots of mileage.

We used to go to a place in high school that would let us ride bulls for $5 a ride. I’m wearing boots

Aside from the city slickers acting like cowboys, rodeo in general is really awesome. It’s an old pastime that has lost popularity but it’s genuine good people and it’s a great time to go to. The most pro American sport there is.

Pro rodeo ain’t what it used it be.

NFR, PBR World Finals, HLSR, FWLSR, The American have attracted an outsize number of wannabe influencer grifters recently.

I’m conflicted because in general the money that comes with Teton Ridge is good for rodeo, but there is a cost of the cowboy cosplay crowd coming along with it. Same with Yellowstone and Sheridan commercializing the four sixes and country/western.

I generally watch the whole thing, barrel racing is good time to grab some beers and take a piss.

The PRCA is still old school tough cowboys that grind it out 11 months out the year. There was a lot of talent from SWLA represented at the NFR this year. The PBR has alot of foreign talent now a days.

I used to know a couple of real cowboys, they didn't resemble the current crop of metrosexual looking "bronc busters"

To some degree.

True, there are still some great Americans riding though. That Crimber/Dias battle last year was incredible.

I’ve always told my Houston friends that the Rodeo is their effort to recreate the fun of Mardi Gras.

My kids love the carnival, my son did mutton busting last year in NRG…daughter might next year, hanging out at the wine garden on a nice evening, drunkenly crushing a Trill Burger after hitting the Corral Club for most of the events and making it to like half of the concert…all while wearing a pair of boots that probably cost more than your mortgage payment.

You just just sound like a miserable cocksucker.

Nah, that's as new as Mardi Gras in Lake Chuck. It really wasn't there until someone thought about getting tourism dollars sometime in the 1980's

The first Mardi Gras celebration at all was in 1976 in Lake Chuck It was a zydeco band on a flatbed trailer in the parking lot of an upscale bar owned by Spook Stream.

All those fine women walking around with raging camel toes and all you think about is other men dressed up?

And don't forget about all the gals in the barrel racing and calf roping contests. Most of those gals are for real cowgirls and usually pretty damn good looking to boot.

Then jump on a horse and compete against them and see who comes out on top........

Some of these gals make a damn good living doing what they do-------and yeah, they are not bronc busting, riding bareback strapped on bulls or wrestling calves to the ground tying them up like the men, but the ladies are good at what they do.

It's also a major agribusiness expo for the Texas Gulf Coast counties centered around Houston. They don't fly in the exhibitors, cowboys, farmers, and livestock.

Exactly. All and all it’s honestly much more productive and meaningful than Mardi Gras. Tons of youth are benefited. It’s a huge event for the region.

Also the whole suburban guys wearing cowboy boots thing is no different than Louisiana. Last I checked guys in Gonzales, Denham Springs and Zachary all wear cowboy boots the same way guys from Houston burbs do.

If it were not true then why would BR have a Tecovas store? In fact, BR was actually known as a “cow town” for a long time back in the day. It was a sleepy town known for farming and agriculture and other commerce along the river.
