Our club Baton Rouge Mountain Bike Association (Bramba) makes annual trips in the fall to Oak Mountain. Nice place to ride, I enjoy it, but I’m getting a little old for jumps, so I might have to slow roll this new trail.

Medical staff at the local trauma unit must be cursing and slapping their foreheads about now.

How does it compare to Driskill Mountain?
Oak .Mountain has no base camps nor Sherpas helping.

You ain't doin it right buddy.
I rode for 20 years to help my road bike handling, it was a good workout. It isn’t fun to me, even people I knew that raced said they wouldn’t call it fun. Road racing is different.

not as fun as people think.
Disagree.
Mountain bike riding is way funner than monotonous road biking.
And this is coming from someone who has run monotonous half and full marathons.
But, if road biking is for you , fine. I certainly wouldn't discourage it.

Too dangerous. Like I’ll look forward to a ride one day and then when on the bike I’m thinking to myself “oh yeah, this sucks”.
Agree completely….the daredevil in me is gone! I guess I am looking for something more like a trail ride!

That’s some serious air right there!

When I was 30ish (31 I think), I spent most of a year at a recovery home in Prescott, Arizona.
Mom bought me a mountain bike. I didn't have a car at the time.
One day, I rode to the top of Thumb Butten (6514 feet) and followed another resident down a trail. I busted my arse a few times going down the mountain, and I was so sore I could barely walk the next few days from both the climb and descent.

One of the reasons I ride single speed mtb. Bikes and suspension are so good. Makes it easy to go fast. To me makes trails less interesting. Single speeding makes you look at the trail differently. Also keeps your speeds down since you run out of gearing on the downhills. Buy you go faster uphill as you have to keep on top of your cadence.

I agree with you. Mountain biking is a lot of fun. If you are averse to hard workouts then it’s not for you, but the joy of the banked turns and table top jumps is hard to beat. And the downhill trails through alpine terrain is breathtakingly beautiful.
I’ll get two sessions in next week. At 63 years old the adventurous highs I mentioned above are in my past, but I still enjoy the rides and the natural beauty.

we’re not as blessed as people in Utah.
I'm blessed to have close to 120 miles of trails starting with in just a couple miles of my house.

15ish years ago I exclusively rode a single speed mtb in Utah for an entire season. I never rode better in my entire life. We'd routinely do 1,500-2,000' worth of climbing.

100% truth.
