Human resources. Even if they make minimum wage, it's still too much.

I think too, with Lawyers, it is partly people's perception based on the industry 10-20 years ago. Today's market is so saturated with attorneys, it is pretty hard to make a really good living unless you've been doing it for a long time. I use to work with a bunch of attorneys, and they definitely were not overpaid. I think that market is quickly becoming less and less overpaid.

Which is probably fair. If you're connected or really talented or have top credentials, it's still a good money making profession.

But if you're pretty average you'll make above-average pay for the most part, which is more in line with the idea that people in other professions at similar pay are also going to grad school.

Add standalone marketing departments in there with human resources. It's a function that should be rolled in with the sales staff.

Considering the money they bring in to a owner or company and the unique skill set they have, I would say not.

Would you say someone like Lebron James is overpaid?

this is absurd. now, our system has certainly created way more demand for legal work than it should (and I'm not talking about tort reform -- just general bureaucracy and dumb regulations).

and i think the owner of a closely held corporation/llc etc should be able to represent that entity (illegal in many jurisdictions), but otherwise, there is a very free market when it comes to hiring lawyers.

if you don't like a lawyer who charges you to train his/her associates then there are plenty of different models these days--seasoned competent lawyers who don't work with associates at all.

Try to put together a merger, acquisition, complex loan transaction, building project, land transaction, intellectual property or licensing deal, stock offering, tax shelter, environmental plan, etc., or defend or prosecute actions related to those and other business issues, without a lawyer, and you'll see the value of a good lawyer.

blame the system, not the profession/als.

How many nurses you think are smart enough to finish med school?

I've known nurses that would have made great doctors if they would have gone that route. Some just don't want the costs/time/dedication required to become a doctor.

But what exactly does a real estate agent do for someone that the internet can't?

A lot of the same things a lawyer does. Advice/expertise, knowledge of the situation/market, paperwork, negotiations, bring in vendors, scheduling, a network of potential buyers, among other things.

Could you sell or buy a place by yourself? Sure. You could also represent yourself in court. But using a realtor or attorney is generally going to make things a lot easier on you and increase your chances of success.

considering their pay isn't linked to performance, and sports fans are going to pay regardless of who's wearing the uniform, I'd tend to say so

I don't believe in any of that shite. The market dictates what those people make. You don't like paying a lawyer $500 per hour so he or she can make $300k per year? Find a cheaper lawyer. Can't find one competent enough to represent you adequately? Represent yourself and see how far that takes you.

Same goes for all of the others. You think dentists are overpaid? Go to a different dentist who went to school in Peru. Think your orthodontist isn't worth it? Go find a guy who will put braces on your teeth cheaper then. Can't find one? Do it yourself and see how well that ends up.

What a colossally dumb belief. We don't live in a society in which incomes are fixed by a third party source like the government. Incomes are determined by supply and demand. These people have skills you don't have and/or do jobs you don't want to do. Deal with it.

That is definitely not true. A winning team will always draw more than a loser.
