I disagree you are probably good at your craft but anyone with a degree & silly teaching cert can be a teacher but anyone with a degree can't get 50 an hour teaching guitar

They are also paid considerably more than their peers in Houston, the Northwest, the Eastcoast, Mobile...etc.
Not true again.

However, the 86 Houston pilots received an average distribution — money left over when revenue is subtracted from expenses — of $516,766 in 2012

But the PSC is on their side, so they are the highest paid pilots in the nation and seek 10% raises every 3 years or so.
Compared to the rest of the nation, they make around the average. And less than Texas

In making their case before the Galveston board, the Gal-Tex pilots submitted a study by a maritime consultant showing that their average net earnings were $272,624 annually, while the Texas state-wide average for ship pilots was $443,491.

A lot of pilots are great guys and good at what they do, but most of them will admit it is a racket and has always been.
Agreed. They freely admit the gravy train will end at some point but they just hope its latter rather than sooner. If I was in their shoes I would be the exact same way.

I'm not a physician, but people saying doctor in this thread are just trashy. In terms of being a relatively standardized profession, those guys should be paid the most, for obvious reasons.
Way too much class warfare and populist greed, as evidenced by the bitching and moaning in a recent O&G thread.

Ok, now you are just trolling. First with Lebron and now Dicaprio and Hanks? If you really think those two are bad actors..

I really do think those two are about as mediocre as they come, they seem to be in a contest to see who can make as many movies with characters requiring accents that they can butcher, that being said, I do realize that they are paid for whatever the movie can bring in the first week of release, but there seems to be a lot more bombs than home runs, to each his own I guess

Butcher accents? Like what for Leo? Leo was money in Blood Diamond. If you can watch that movie and say he is just a mediocre actor then you are insane. That performance was phenomenal.

I guess I mean you could debate that Leo is one of the top 2 actors working now. Dude is crazy talented.

not ignoring it, just saying that the athletes are temps, fans will continue to buy merchandise, come to games, watch on TV -which is still generating revenue for the franchise, regardless of who is on the field
No, people don't show up to games and spend the same amount of money when teams are playing poorly.
You're really going to argue that Drew Brees hasn't made Tom Benson and the Saints a ridiculous amount of money?
Look at the attendance in Arizona when Warner retired and the team went to shite. Look at the attendance in New Orleans when Chris Paul had us as contenders vs. after.

when a John Elway, Michael Jordan, or Derek Jeter retires the revenue doesn't stop, or even hiccup, the wheels keep turning and the $ keeps flowing, always has, always will
It absolutely can happen for the individual franchises. You're arguing for the league as a hold when they are actual individual franchises.
And bringing up Michael Jordan . That is a good example of why your entire argument is wrong. Jordan's exposure gave the Bulls organization complete national appeal and gave the NBA international appeal. He was a global superstar that was the 2nd most known person in China behind their communist leader.

as it is, the talent level in pro sports is diluted because the market is over saturated, yet people still come out to see them, buy the merchandise, also, revenue sharing, salary caps, and tax exemptions(the NFL is a "non-profit" org.,) levels the field a bit, and there are different sized markets, but do you think that the Cowboys, Redskins, or Yankees are among the world's highest valued franchises for the product that they have been putting on the field over the past few years?
