isn't that town you're buying a house in the Berkley of AL?

Its a great city otherwise though.
Asheville is a really nice town.
Not quite enough liberals/hipsters to turn it into looney land. And the county as a whole and the surrounding areas are fairly conservative.

I find that hard to believe. That city is next level. Somehow Eugene is even worse and easily the most Leftist city in the country. I have a friend that lives in SF, and he assured me Eugene is fricking insane in comparison. Second biggest customer is there, so now I’m going every two months. People in SF are no longer head turners thanks to Eugene.

Austin is the answer if Texas is considered "south". If not, it's probably now Atlanta.

Lot's of good choices listed, one I have not seen but is up there is Chapel Hill, NC, very liberal, one example, during first gulf war it was legal for draft dodgers to be there and not be handed over to the feds, there was not a draft of course, but town felt it needed to pass this law...

had to go there for business a couple of years ago, I was like WTF? this is not like the AL that I've come to know at all, seems like a cool little town

Also, from my travels, liberal towns are usually fantastic. Clean, charming, and a ton of local shops and restaurants. Don’t let the OT fool you
However, they are huge hypocrites in the town because they preach income equality blah blah blah yet their towns are usually extremely expensive to live in

Asheville has the beer snob and outdoorsy hipsters. Not the north east I’ll throw paint on you for wearing fur kind of hipsters.

My town isn’t known as Gay St Louis for no reason.

That was the vibe I caught as well. Not quite the mentally deranged type looney tune that has melt downs and screaming hissy fits if they don't get their way.

Liberals no longer exist. The American left has been hijacked by Progressives, their more authoritarian counterparts.
Progs love to tax and spend, however they aren't the bleeding hearts the liberals were. They are elitist, hypocrites, and price poor people out of their living areas.
You'll find nice restaurants and pubs though.

But you're right. The fear mongering on here of San Francisco for instance is just comical. It's clearly from people who have never been and watch too much fox news.
And I've seen more needles on the ground in New Orleans than San Francisco fwiw

My sister went to Oregon's architecture masters program and now lives in Portland.
I've spent extensive amount of time in both. (As well as in Asheville)
Eugene actually has a ton of rednecks on the periphery. They have a smaller % of their population that aligns with the democratic party than Portland. You just see the vocal, radical college liberals more than the residents I bet.

Well said. I always say that I've never saw a state run for the super rich to the extent California is.
