What amazes me is if they shifted the route about 5 miles more to the north they could follow the highway 63 corridor that has hardly anything out there.

Lets presume oceans rise 8 feet in next generation.
How much you wanna bet this doesnt happen?
I don't want to bet our taxpayer money that it doesnt.
why fly in the face of such unknowns? put the money into things that can last.
If just Greenland melts, it will cause a 18 ft rise.
if the Antarctic melts, its going to be 80 feet.
I am just positing 8 feet. 80% from Antarctic and 20% from Greenland.
if the chances are just one out of ten, why risk it?

We could definitely use a new LP to AP highway connector to bypass BR

LP/AP
And people bitch about politicians and the 'bridge to no where' that was built, sounds like the same type of shite

Have you paid attention to the growth of these parishes. There needs to be something that links all of Baton Rouge's surrounding parishes together.. People have to work in Baton Rouge, but don't want to live there. People have moved to AP, LP, WBRP, etc because its within reasonable driving distance from Baton Rouge and have access to better public schools, etc. I live in Iberville Parish (which borders EBR). A lot of people who live in EBRP, WBRP, AP, LP, etc come here because they work at Dow or Shintech. In other words, there is a lot of traffic in and out of all these parishes and the traffic gets insane.. And not always just on the interstate. It affects a lot of people and something needs to be done.

No bridge will ever solve Baton Rouge's local traffic problems!
In case you didn't understand what I just said: No bridge will ever solve Baton Rouge's local traffic problems!
Baton Rouge has traffic coming from I-10 westbound and I-10 Eastbound and I-12 Westbound that merge at the bridge.
In rush hour, this is mostly local traffic of employees going to and from work.
One or more of these funnels must be diverted before it gets to that chokepoint.
For I-12 westbound traffic, they could build an elevated roadway over Florida Blvd that would take I-12 traffic into downtown and then home in the evenings.
No billion dollar bridge needed.
Besides, after LA built that billion dollar boondoggle bridge north of BR that no one uses, the Feds will never give you that much money again to piss away.
The local I-10 westbound traffic can be diverted before the I-10/I-12 merge to ease that area.
The I-10 eastbound local traffic over the bridge will have little traffic left to back them up.
Loops and bridges will never solve Baton Rouge's local traffic problems.

Negative. Bridge connecting southern EBR and AP to the industrial facilities on the West Bank has been desperately needed for a long time now. Traffic backs up regularly on LA1 and I-10.

Traffic backs up on I-10 westbound because that is the only place in the country where an interstate goes to only one lane.
Let LA fix the simplest of problems before everyone screams "new bridge".

Completing LA-3134 (Lafitte-Larose Highway) as it was originally planned....connecting Crown Point-Lafitte area all the way to Larose.
Would be nice to cut my drive time in half when I feel like fishing off Highway 1 between Fourchon and Grand Isle. The oilfield baws and trucks going between Fourchon and NOLA would probably like it too

Actually, a ton of people live in LP and commute from EBR and LP to the plants along the river in AP and St. James, St. John, and even St. Charles Parish. This creates a massive amount of traffic on LA 22 and LA 431, both 2-lane roads, every morning and evening.

I still can't fathom how LA doesn't believe in tollways/bypasses
Shreveport says what's up, I-220 is a full bypass on the north side and LA 3132 covers most of the south side. Lake Chuck with I-210 as well.
