I have Libby and Hoopla and I can typically find something to listen to during my commutes. However, the true pro tip is to get as many libraries as possible. This will give you more/different books and options I'd the one you want is already checked out in your local library.

Look into Libby app...
You get the books through local libraries, so sometimes there's a wait for what you want. That's the biggest drawback
Some libraries also have Hoopla, which offers instant downloads and no waiting. Also a 21-day checkout vs. 14 with Libby. I have both and if Libby has a wait, Hoopla usually doesn't if the book is on that app.

On my drive i’m listening to a true crime novel on YouTube that’s recorded chapter by chapter and being read by what sounds like a middle school student. Mispronounced words and all. You get used to it though.

You can get them through a library, but they might not have what you want when you want it.
Youtube actually has audio books available for free, but of course I doubt they have anything new available.
With the library, depending on where you live, it would be best to get a library card from the biggest area near you (if you live right outside of BR, go to the EBR library to register). The bigger libraries have more of a selection.

Did anyone mention the public library?
