Firestone has got to be at the top of the list as far as recommending you fix things that don't need it and trying to get your bill as high as possible.

Don't ever bring a fleet vehicle there that is under a fleet management program like Enterprise.

Even if you just bring it in for an oil change, they attempt to get approval from the fleet management company for as many repairs as they can without going over the limit that they would need special approval from the company using the cars.

All of them.

Never take your vehicles to anybody other than a friend or family member who does it for a living.

mostly all of them

best thing to do is say you dont own the car and youre only getting an oil change. they arent going to try and upsell anything to a person that doesnt own the car

Went to Wal Marks the other day for a quick oil change.

I approach the counter and nicely inform the black, heavy lady at the counter that I would like an oil change.

There’s about 4 other male individuals that look like Obama’s sons (except with dreads/dredz) standing around doing nothing. She says “ayybody fill lak doin ah awl shange” and immediately they scatter like roaches.

I informed the lady that I would kindly take my business to Jiffy Lube up the road for my oil change needs. So Wally World TLE is on my shite list right now.

I clicked on your post to say Firestone. I got sucked into a $19.95 oil change and tire rotation special. Was given a list of things that desperately needed to be fixed ASAP for a total of over $2000. Showed to my local mechanic who got a good laugh. It's amazing how many people fall for that crap.

Midas in Broussard.

Upon picking up my car after an oil change I was given a page of urgently needed repairs for a grand total of $3400.
This included a new axle.

Two friends who also went that week were told they needed new axles.

And never send your wife. Always take her car in for her.

Firestone

Ah, Firestone, the place where a free AC diagnosis coupon means "visual inspection only" and doesn't count against the diagnostic fee with the use of gauges. People, don't let them away with that nonsense. Make them feel stupid and dishonest until they capitulate.

Reminds me of several years back when 20/20 or one of those news shows did an investigation where they got a car completely serviced by an ASE certified mechanic and then had a woman take it to various repair chains. They wired the car with cameras inside and under the hood. They ended up with video of mechanics breaking various things and then telling the woman that they needed to be fixed. They also would say things needed to be replaced, not replace them (since they weren't broken) and then charge her for them.

Of course, the show said it was because it was a woman but I think they would have done it to a man as well.

I want to support these kind of folks, but the no Saturday hours kill me. I work 45 minutes away, so it makes for a pain in the arse to deal with on a Monday through Friday.

Beware of the ones that charge you for diagnostics no matter what they find.

I use a Firestone here and 95% of the time get great service. But I've been going to the same store for over 20 years, and with 3 vehicles, I've gotten to know them pretty well. You should always have an idea as to what is needed when you walk in. I have lifetime rotate and balance, as well as alignment, and get it all done with every oil change. The other things I just say no and then will research to see if I really need it done.
