I’m split on this one. All the old people in my family that grew up there call it The Bywater or “Down in the Bywater”. They are having a Yat Pak lunch right now, I’ll get a poll.

They should be happy about gentrification because they can cash out on their home and move out of a shitty neighborhood

How can a factual statement be "racist" ?

Does this mean that any factual statement that does not , in your learned opinion, inure to the benefit of all races is ipso facto "racist"? Or would there be a disqualifier that this proscription apply only to statements that IYHO reflect poorly on members of any particular race or ethnicity?

I never heard “Upper 9” before Katrina and never heard “9” in place of “9th Ward”.

everyone I know calls it THE Bywater, including an old old man that lived there 50 years ago.

Technically, simply Bywater is correct, but no one says that.

The 9th Ward and The East can be added to that.

Don't be naive. Context of presenting facts can be done in a racist way.

Now it is expensive in historically shitty neighborhoods

That is happening in Houston too and it’s not because of STRs in the 3rd ward. People are looking to move into cities instead of commuting more and more.

I think it’s an easy villain for New Orleans to put a bandaid on when this has been a long term issue.

Im not against STRs. There is no doubt they are one of the driving forces to reviving these neighborhoods.

The 'taking away the culture' is a truth as well. The question is how to balance reviving neighborhoods and bringing new investment while keeping what makes the neighborhood.

yep. In 50 years the ghetto will hardly exist as we know it today

All the undesirables will be in the shittiest suburbs and the hood will turn into condos

Its something that Houston doesn’t have too deal with as much of. We hear about it in the 3rd and montrose where yuppies move in but generally speaking Houston/Atlanta will just tear down and build up where there is rent inefficiencies.

New Orleans is way more protective of their culture and architecture for better or for worse.

The area in between UH/TSU and downtown is too close to downtown to stay ghetto.

Same goes for around the med center.

Since when is affluent a fact? What makes affluent? I agree in your statement that a factual statement can simply be stating facts and not be racist because racism is objective. My point is that affluent is pretty damn objective.

Something like this is already happening in Atlanta. Parts of Gwinnett and Cobb that were very desirable 20 years ago is no longer the case. Espresso Lawrenceville, Snellville and parts of Marietta
