I'm fed up. I can't walk in the backyard or use the pool without getting eaten up.

There is no standing water. I've put mosquito bits in the gutters. I use tiki torches with citronella oil, a fan, etc. etc.

The only thing that works is Deet. Someone recommended a mosquito mister - Mistaway. It's a time release machine.

I hate to spray chemicals that kill bees/butterflies (apparently it sprays dawn/dusk when they aren't active).

But if comes down to bees or our backyard being unuseable, the bees come in 2nd. This sucks.

Plant citronella and lavender.

The city mosquito truck backs up in my neighbor's driveway (last house on dead end street) and blasts away

It's understandable that the misquitoless enjoyment your pool would take precedence over pollinating organisms.

Probably sarcasm, but I kind of agree. I hate being selfish and potentially hurting the environment but I don't know what to do.

We use some all natural spraying company that blasts the shite out of our yard and seemingly doesn't harm the bees or butterflies. Green Queen I believe.

Works well. I forget how much it works until I go to someone's house who doesn't spray and get torn up in like 10 minutes.

Try this Spartan Mosquito Eradicator

I bought it but was skeptical, it is only $25ish. It has worked great so far, no/minimal mosquitos for over a month

That's what I use. It's pretty good for an eco-friendly option. If you are starting during mosquito season they recommend you double up on the units. Last year I stated late and didn't double up and they weren't that effective. I started in early spring this year and it's working better. I still get a lot of mosquitos after a rain though.

FWIW, he might not has as good of results as you. They say the earlier in the year you get them out the better so that it helps with the breeding cycle/period. That being said, I hung some up 3 weeks ago and have had decent results. You can also reuse the tube once the 90days is up. Just get some sugar and yeast from the grocery store and mix with hot water in the tube and you'll be good for another 90 days.

It will be cheaper if you buy a backpack fogger and spray the backyard every 3 weeks.

I’ve done all the chemicals and sprays and honestly the thing that works best was the natural organic citronella spray you attach to your hose and just blast everything in or near your backyard. It’s safe for bees and stuff, but like you that was a secondary consideration.

I use a fogger, now I can go in my yard. It's the only thing that worked for me.

We live to be outside as much as possible. My back patio is our go to place of happiness! I spray Demon WD once a month! Seems to work. My neighbor about three hundred yards from me can’t even be outside after dark!

Use this instead of companies like Mosquito Joe. Chemicals can be found online. Much cheaper than paying for the service in the long run. If you have some neighbors that want to do the same you could split the cost of the mister and get the price down even more.

I haven't been able to find a good explanation on that. They must be some kind of bait system because they say on the package to not put in a populated/active area due to mosquitos being near them. But as to what actually kills the mosquitos I really don't know

I have no problems with mosquitos. I called up the East Baton Rouge mosquito control and they sprayed the house. It doesn't cost you anything as it is a government service.

In addition, i bought (for $20) the spartan mosquito defense system. It's really easy. it's 2 cylinders filled with a powder. You mix with warm water and hang them in a tree or bush at the corner of your lot (160' apart or less). Takes about 15 days to fully activate, and by that time, 95% of your mosquitoes are gone.

We call EBR parish mosquito abatement about every other week. They come out and treat front and back yard. Mosquitoes gone.
