Bat houses work great. I built a couple and put them just beyond my fence line in the woods behind the house.
As someone else said, Marten houses (gourds) work well too, but I think bats just frick a mosquito's world all up.

The Martens help with the daylight ones, and it's cool watching them do their thing as well. Flying through with their mouths open. Some fast acrobatic flying too.

Bats have been a big deal in Texas for a while. We have West Nile here and so people have been looking for a mosquito solution. I know the bats we have ....Mexican free tail....don't eat many mosquitos. I have read quite a bit about bats and while you will find many web sites claiming they eat thousands of mosquitos, that is a myth. The scientific literature I have read states they do not eat many mosquitos but do eat a large number of crop pests. What kind of bats do you have? Maybe they eat a lot of mosquitos.

Do you have a very sunny yard, maybe in a new subdivision? Houses close together? 1 yard adjoining the next one?
My yard is super sunny. No trees or any shade. I live by businesses.. not a traditional neighborhood.
I never once have any mosquitoes when there is sunlight, ever. I even have a small wooded area close by too, but no mosquitoes in the day. Only at night. I guess it's just one of those strange things.
I guess I am somewhat fortunate, because I sure hate mosquitoes.. not other bugs really bother me.

Well, that is kind of the key,to not having daytime skeeters, sunny yard,no big woods close by.
Like somebody already mentioned, the moisture of leaves etc..Shady yard( mosquitoes hate sun),rural area that doesn't get sprayed often, mosquitoes love that.
It's all a trade. I hate close neighbors, more than mosquitoes myself.
There are lots of ways to thin out the skeeters,it's a bit harder to take care of pesky neighbors.

Glad that worked out, more often than not it doesn't. The largest bat house in the US is in the Florida Keys.
The guy who built it figured it was the perfect solution to all the mosquitoes there. He imported bats to live in his bat tower and they immediately left. No bat has been seen in the tower since.
But I'm tempted to put up a bat house just for grins. The mosquitoes aren't too bad where I live but I like watching bats fly around at dusk.

Does it work for horse flies?

I was looking to put up a purple martin house but after researching found that they don't eat that many mosquitos.

Man I'd buy a 1,000 bats it it got rid of Mosquitos and horse flies

Purple martin's don't eat a lot of mosquitoes but hummingbirds do. Maybe try a hummingbird feeder.

It won't be long before those bats out grow their house and start looking to move into your's. Bats are just rats with wings. They multiply rapidly and carry diseases.

We had a bat box at our last place. It took about 15 months for them to start using it but once they did it really helped.

Mosquito Barrier eliminates mosquitoes. It is garlic juice and has been life changing for me. I spray three times a year.

Anyone else tried this?

I sprayed my yard with NyGuard IGR which is a growth regulator that keeps larvae from developing into adults. I have noticed drastic results. It also works on fleas and ants.

I put a bat house up 8 years ago here in Virginia. No skeeters the last 7 plus years.
Youll see a few bats at night but nothing alarming. I installed mine on a 30 foot galvanized pole on the shady side of the house about 2 feet away from the eve/ soffett.
No mess, no damage to the house.

I've been wanting to get one as well. Supposed to be amazing mosquito control and it's surprising how many bats those boxes will hold.

Aren't you worried about vampires though?
