Yeah, and they convert dead people. Good stuff. Forgot about that one. And the temples. Unreal amounts of gold in them. The money they spend of shiny objects.
I'll say this again, though. And it's really what they believe, no matter if you think being "fair" is a defense.
I'm not trying to defend the LDS faith. My parents left the church when I was a teen and I went with them. But when you say they believe unbelievers go straight to Hell it's just not accurate. Unless you believe Hell is basically like Earth and has missionaries.

bad mormons my arse, they did exactly what they were told to do.
In all seriousness I almost married one of them and if I hadn't met my current wife more then likely would be married to her.

I visited Temple Square in SLC about 12 or 15 years ago. You've got to have a Mormon guide to get into the Tabernacle and they also explain the significance of some of the monuments (seagull, goat cart, etc.) in Temple Square.
There was a woman in our group who was very argumetative. I think she resented the fact she couldn't see what she wanted to see without hearing the LDS guide's sales pitch. Under the Banner of Heaven had been out for a few months, was on best sellers lists and Jon Krakauer was doing a shitload of interviews. The woman starts harassing the guide about the book. The guide insisted that not only hadn't she read the book, but hadn't even HEARD of it. I had just finished the book, so I gave her a brief synopsis in the most respectful way I could. The guide asked me what religion I was, so I told her that I'd been raised Catholic. She said, "So you know how we feel. It must have been very upsetting for you when The Davinci Code was published."
WUCK?!? Two points: You haven't even HEARD about Under the Banner of Heaven, how could you possibly know what's in it? Secondly, when I walk in a bookstore, The Davinci Code is in the Fiction section, unlike Under the Banner of Heaven.

quote:the average lds does not know quite a few things about the inner workings of the highest levels of leadership. i have brought this up with lds i have met on several occasions and they are a little bothered by it.
What exactly is it that you think Mormons are hiding?
btw, lds people are some of the nicest most wholesome people i have ever met. still, there are some theological inconsistencies in lds beliefs.

couldn't see what she wanted to see without hearing the LDS guide's sales pitch.
lds people are not allowed to do certain things or they can be excommunicated. the leadership works behind closed doors, issues fiat proclamations and the average lds has to abide by it or leave. what's worse is the average lds doesn't see the doctrinal inconsistencies from the leadership that have happened over the years. the lay people are told what to believe. over the years, it is my observation that there is a certain kind of person who needs that, needs to be told what to do and what to believe. it's simple and mindless.

Where does it say it is a mormon only neighborhood?

You know just enough to make some very lame statements about what the Mormons believe.
It was pretty humorous. Especially since you claim it all to be fact. Haha

Anytime I hear about Mormons, I always think of an episode of an Australiain cable show called John Safran vs God. In the episode he is railing against Mormons knocking on his door early in the morning, so they fly off to Salt Lake City. Once there, he starts knocking on Mormon's doors trying to spread the message of atheism.

For many years, "dark people" were not allowed to be members of the LDS church. But, about 35 or 40 years ago, after realizing that most every white person who was going to join had already joined, the Prophet got word from the Almighty that blacks could be members.
This is incorrect

Please clarify, if you will. I believe my comment is generally, if not completely, accurate.
Isn't it true that if the Prophet receives a revelation, then it is incorporated into LDS policy/dogma?

read about the curse of cain
2smooth, it seems that you are greatly misinformed about lds but, you are acting otherwise. care to explain?

quote:People of African descent have always been able to be baptized into membership into the LDS Church. In 1978 the LDS Church President changed the prohibition against males of African descent not being able to be given the LDS priesthood. You were 100% wrong in saying that black people could not be LDS church members.

All (or most all) organized religion requires suspension of belief in empirical evidence. A Virgin Mother is revered by hundreds of millions of Roman Catholics. LDS folks also believe Mary was a virgin when Jesus was born. Does this make both Catholics and Mormons crazy? Some would say so.
If an atheist or agnostic wants to disrespect the LDS Church, that's fine and logical. An adherent of "traditional" Christian sects cannot. My fairy tale is true, your fairy tale is false?

Is anyone else excited about the potential for an all out territory clash as Scientologists from South Florida rise up and do battle with Central Florida Mormons for the salvation of the Gulf Coast?
This could very well be the Armageddon
