Seems to me that they face possible legal issues if they open it before the flow rate trigger. Their hands seem to be bound to those outlined specs . I just wonder how close to overtopping it has to get to override those triggers.

Idk, maybe flooding a bunch of areas they dont have to?

So, we are going to risk millions of people and billions in industry, instead of flooding some land that people got for cheap because it was designed to be flooded?

At least they don’t live in a bowl below sea level?

Who says they are at risk? You?

I dont know where yall are coming up with this stuff. Seems people would be jumping for joy knowing that not only is the levees holding but they dont have to open Morganza to save anything because all is well

Would have nothing to do with Morganza Spillway anyway.

The ACoE could use some better communication skills.

If it's going to open a week out, and then you delay that, people would feel better knowing what has changed. I know they say the forecast has changed or whatever, but some insight into why that is would make people feel more at ease, IMO.

The way they've handled it leaves room for criticisms like political pressure.

Do you think the Corps isn't monitoring what the river is doing and will open it if necessary?

Communicate about what? Is it their fault that people run around on social media wishcasting doomsday shite?

From the beginning they have said why they were looking at opening it and that they may not have to.

They have never said they were opening to save levees from failing

They have never said there was critical damage to levees.

They said they would open if it looked like it would be topped.

They have now said that they believe this wont happen so they wont have to open it.

If people believe rumors and get themselves worked up over gossip, then they can only blame themselves

Not sure but I know I’f they went through with opening it for no reason Morgan City would rise to 10’3”.

Maybe it’s not worth it unless they know for sure Morganza is going to overtop.

Wouldn’t the water diversion also make navigating the MS river harder?

I think it falls under the idea of not purposefully flooding an area that you don't need to.

I've read what they've said straight from the horse's mouth. They said they thought they'd have to open it. That has changed. SOME explanation other than "because the water isn't as high" would ease the minds of many.

It falls under, the reason to open it is to prevent the Morganza from overtopping. If that’s not a threat then there’s no reason to open it.
