Once again missing the point of what a songwriter that makes art does and a pop entertainer that sings other peoples songs deliberately written to lyrically appeal to a certain demographic.

For mass appeal. Songs that lack any real substance or emotion.

There's a place for that type of music, usually when youre in high school and like to dance.

oh for fricks sake. Wallen isn't the type of country I like, but he has some good songs.

This is some abstract painting bullshite. "It really shows how I was feeling at the time". If country people aren't supposed to sing about country things like beer, trucks, dirt roads, etc, then what are they supposed to sing about?

I DGAF who writes the songs, because without the voice they are just poems on paper. You spend a lot of time reading poetry?

Is this what you reduce country life to?

There's more, but that's what gets generalized. Have you ever met country people?

But DCFC is on streaming services and they charge for concert tickets. How are we to know just how sincere every artist is? Every singer/band panders to someone.

Maybe Morgan Wallen is Miller Light and DCFC is a craft beer from some kitschy little brewery, but they both serve their audience.

Can't they peacefully coexist? I've never been to a Wallen concert, but I'd definitely have a good time. Never had a bad time in my life listening to live music. I literally don't care who writes the lyrics, and I certainly couldn't care less about their motivation.

You’ve just been conditioned to the Nashville pop marketing. If that’s what you think country music is supposed to be idk what to tell you. You are exactly the type of person they are marketing to in their focus groups.

This is highly upsetting to monsterballads as his favorite music is the only music that counts and in no way shape or form panders to the demographics of their audience

Queens of the Stone Age put one of their songs into a commercial.

Just admit you’re an idiot.

I get you baw. I’m upvoting where I can. I fish with a bunch of young baws that blare MW all day while we fish. I can’t make them understand how awful his music is. For me it’s the exaggerated twang and the ridiculous lyrics.

The thing is….there isn’t a single person here talking about how great his music is. We’re just saying his favorite bands are doing the exact same thing he’s complaining about.

So you’re riding his dick for no reason.

As a Turnpike fan, I understand the disappointment of a show getting cancelled because the lead singer has addiction issues. I've travelled multiple places to see TT, so I would be gutted if I had booked flights, hotels etc only to have the show cancelled at last minute.

But I also think MW sucks and I don't get the hype. But a lot of people don't understand why I spend time and money going to see the same band over and over. To each their own, I guess.

I don’t understand why anyone would spend thousands to go see Taylor swift but I once drove around 1000 miles total to see Andy Frasco Band perform twice in a 3 day span. To each is definitely their own.

I'm adding to this thread how much of boring place Oxford is and how unprepared Ole Miss was to handle a concert of this magnitude.

I think MW panders more than most artists in the fact that what he does is not authentic. His music is not artistic in any way. It is the result of a huge corporate effort and not the effort of a struggling artist trying to make it.

I would argue that wile DCFC has a song in a commercial, they are pandering much less and trying to make some $$ to further their artistic views on the world.

For Morgan, the money drives the music. For others with some authenticity, the music drives the money.

And I don't ride anyone's dick. I fricking hate white knighters.

My favorite bands aren’t selling their souls compromising their songwriting to appeal on a mass level. That’s the difference between mass produced pop music and independent artists. It’s a shame someone has to explain this to you but it is what it is I guess.

If you think Josh homme is writing his next album trying to appeal to certain demographics like Morgan wallens team then you really don’t understand the difference between pop and non pop music at all.

But I'm not. We have "new country" on at work constantly, and I don't like the overwhelming majority of it.

Look back at the golden age of country in the 80's and early 90's. They were singing about drinking, heatbreak, trucks, tractors, being a cowboy, etc.

Maybe there were more songs that told stories, but that is true across all genres.
