That’s quite a straw man there.

What is your contention for why an individual shouldn’t pay taxes for a gift he is receiving?

Why should a gift be taxed when that gift was taxed already?

Oh yay! We haven’t had a thread in a while where middle class schmucks defend policies that disproportionately benefit the wealthy!

It's a little sad that you take for granted that people should just support whatever puts more of other people's money in their pocket.

Because it allows an easy loophole to avoid income tax, which is being footed by me.

Why should I have to pay taxes on my income?

So why are you arguing for more taxation? Shouldn't you be arguing for less taxation at all levels?

Or is your argument just a distillation of "it's not fair, and I want to use government to punish them"?

Honestly that’s the only thing I could think of that would explain that line of thinking.

Personally I think the government wastes a huge amount of money and the whole system needs reform. I’m not in favor of ‘more taxes’ in the sense that the government should get more money. In fact I think much the opposite. I just think that every individual should pay their fair share.

Honestly I’d rather a flat tax be implemented and we could do away with all this crap.

Nevermind. You're not worth having a discussion with if you actually typed this out as a serious statement.

Holy CNN talking point.

Not even worth talking to someone with these arguments on anything

Is it? An individual giving something to another individual should have government involvement is your premise, so much so that you incredulously asked someone else to justify the position that such involvement should not be the case.

Is a family making 400k and paying 120k to the government not excessive?

A literal non-answer unless you’re asking for a flat tax rate….

First of all it is not income. They are taxed on their income just like you. It sounds to me like you have poor parents and are salty because you will not get any inheritance.

Well it would be an easy loophole to avoid paying capital gains. Unfortunately for me (and everyone else working) there is no such loophole for the income tax we pay. I don’t want people paying more taxes. In fact I’d prefer the opposite. I just want the money taxed evenly across everyone. So I’m not paying an increased % of the tax myself because others are skipping out.
