how about do away with the EBT cards all together and have the people in need get in line for powered milk, can goods, and cheese like they did back in the day?
Not an expert but I would guess that it is cheaper just to give them a few hundred dollars a month than having the government run and manage a food depot. The logistics of staffing, managing inventory, coordinating shipping, etc. is a pretty labor intensive and expensive operation.
Do you really want the inefficient government doing that? I can guarantee there would be waste and corruption in spades.

#3 Raise sales taxes on non-neccessities such as cable TV, sports tickets, clothing (see below) , movies, electronics, etc. Everyone who can afford a 70in HDTV pays

Wrong.
Too much of our state's budget is protected so legislators can only cut from healthcare and education which causes a huge uproar when they have to. The first thing that NEEDS to happen is to blow up our current constitution and approve a new one without all the protections. Make no program or department safe from cuts. And while we are at it, let's get rid of this silly Napoleanic Code.

Louisiana ranks No. 7 in the US in the number of state guberment jobs, per capita. LA ranks 25th in the nation in population. Yet our state gov is about the size of Pennsylvania's, which ranks 5th in population.

People with food stamps aren't typically buying steaks. They load their carts with cokes, chips, and other junk food.
I saw a women in Sam's who had a flat truck mostly of garbage food. She didn't have enough on her EBT card so she pulled off all the good/healthy food and left all the junk food. I guess if you have an EBT card you get a free Sam's membership. I stopped going/paying for a Sam's membership after that.

I was behind a woman in WalMart, Bastrop and she spent $210 on her EBT card. Her buggy was full of snickers, M&M's, juciy juice drink boxes (sugar water), cokes, and a bunch of other "non" essential food items or junk food. The ONLY thing she had that could be considered food was 2 boxes of mac & cheese, that was it.
I was told she had her a "candy" store set up in the hood and sold all this junk and then kept the cash. This is the stuff we need to get rid of.

Louisiana already has the highest sales tax rate in the United States.
Yep. You combine sales taxes with state/federal taxes and the average La tax payer loses nearly 50%-frickING HALF- of their income to taxes.
Think of that as you agree (not you, jrod) we need more taxes for roads, or schools, health care, etc. YOU only get half of what you make every paycheck because of taxes. Let that sink in. Look at your pretax income per pay period. Then look at your net. Then look at this state. Then let me know if you support new taxes "as long as they're dedicated".
We've been getting a chrome plated fricking on taxes for years with dick to show for it. NO NEW TAXES EVER.

If you paid property taxes like they do in Texas and Florida, you would welcome a state income tax instead.

No. How about looking at your tax return? Most people withhold too much. And some people actually believe their bonuses are taxed by 40%. Don't perpetuate ignorance.
My total tax rate for 2017 was 20% and I make double the median household income for Louisiana.

Fed income tax + Fed payroll tax+ La. income tax plus la. and local sales tax is probably equal to many people's take home pay.
And then you still have taxes on your property, different services (cable, electricity, etc.) and sewer fees.

I pay property tax on 6 different places I own and what burns me up is the people in government supplied housing are able to vote on my property taxes.

How about we make cuts, increase efficiency, and make the politicians actually use the money the right way. All that gas tax money is supposed to maintain the roads. Bang up job they are doing there.

I don't think everyone got the gist of what I was getting at.
I want much lower spending.
I want to do away with state income taxes.
I'm tired of "poor" people racking up EBT cards with expensive crap food and at casinos.
I'm tired of seeing people getting free cellphones.
I'm tired of government assisted living units with mega TVs, watching pay channels.
I'm tired of ppl complaining about public schools, while they pick their kids up in BMWs.
Look we need some taxes, but I want those to be consumption based sales taxes and not income based. If you're on the government dole, then if you buy stuff with that (or drug money) at least we get a rebate of sorts. Overall, the result should be LESS overall tax for responsible citizens.
Again, MAJOR budget reductions - then target consumption taxes. Right now something like 10% of taxpayers pay 90% of all taxes. That's gotta change.
