LINK

quote:

Fiat Chrysler is defending the ads but says there are no plans to run them again. It says one spot was shot on a flooded county road and another in a man-made lake with a man-made waterfall on private land.

Wood said many of his group's 300,000 members and supporters own Jeeps, but the images were upsetting.

"Fish are tough and resilient critters, but they don't do well with several-thousand-pound vehicles driving over their spawning grounds, tearing up the gravel where they lay eggs," he said. "Why someone would want to put out the idea that you should buy a Jeep so you could drive it up a creek is incomprehensible to me."

The world has gone insane.

Laws are taken advantage of and not used properly. When not used properly, criminals don't get the punishment they should.

Filmed on a "stage" with no actual fish in the water.

It says it during the commercial.

"2018 Jeep Wrangler commercial will play after this 40 second commercial".

No thanks.

He's right on that point. It does send the wrong message.

As a farmer, it irritates me when I hear a country song about parties in the corn fields and "mudding" on dirt farm roads because the idiots around our farm take it upon themselves to live out that country song on our farm roads.

That said, get over it and move on.

Lenny Kravitiz was filmed tearing through the Bonnet Carre a few years ago in a Jeep.

I'm sure these outraged conservationists watch every step they take outdoors to ensure that they don't tread over helpless insects.

No, it’s a socioeconomic issue. They don’t have to worry about food and shelter so they turn to complaining about social norms and first worst world problems.

it seems the only issue here is trespassing, not that its wrong to go mudding, right?

It has, but not because of this.

quote:

"Fish are tough and resilient critters, but they don't do well with several-thousand-pound vehicles driving over their spawning grounds, tearing up the gravel where they lay eggs," he said. "Why someone would want to put out the idea that you should buy a Jeep so you could drive it up a creek is incomprehensible to me."

The person who said the above is the president of Trout Unlimited. And that organization's goal is below:
quote:

Stream habitat improvements are part of the decades-long efforts to protect endangered salmon in the Pacific Northwest, where research shows river-bank disturbances and sedimentation chokes off fish eggs.

So, they have reason to gripe when a vehicle is advertising wanton habitat destruction, in the habitat in which they specialize, in a commercial.

Edit to add and off topic:
quote:

The automaker came under fire last week for another Super Bowl ad featuring a Ram pickup set against audio of "The Drum Major Instinct" sermon delivered by Martin Luther King Jr. 50 years ago.

The 60-second spot included images of the truck with people helping others and hugging loved ones. Critics said it omitted King's words in the same speech guarding against advertisers exploiting consumers, including: "In order to make your neighbors envious you must drive this type of car."

I knew that Ram commercial was going to draw complaints the second it started playing. Was a very poor choice for a tv ad.

Many rives and trout streams across the Northern US have banned any use of motorized vehicles for fear of damage to spawning grounds.

Just because we haven't adopted that in Louisiana doesn't mean it's a bad practice.

Correct, as I just mentioned, it's illegal in many (if not most) places across the Northern Part of the US to use motorized vehicles on river/creek beds.

However, if you wish to do so in a place where it isn't illegal...go ahead. Who am I to tell you what to do.

It may be damaging your own man made fishery ... but it's your man made fishery.
