Renting costs MORE than buying a house in a lot of areas and buying a house is fraught with risk. This is zero surprise to me.

that and it is very tough to get a housing loan right now, renting is being forced on people.

Renting may also be in favor due to the number of job changes this age group is having to do.
No more pensions, job security, etc. that would keep one planted in one space, thus desiring that house to buy.

What? No. Unless you are thinking of your stereotypical Brooklyn hipster.

It's the simple fact that wages are low and living expenses are high. Not to mention the student loan debt.

It's mostly women not men. I have.....Literally never, met a single woman who wasn't in a serious relationship who didn't live with their parents still. A good friend of mine, 28 year old female, just got married and still lives at home.

I don't know one guy that lives with his parents

To be honest it's the babyboomer's fault for ramming the economy in the shitter and mortgaging the future of the current generations.

It appears this would be somewhat (more than vaguely) similar to "declining lifestyle."

Sounds like you either need to get out more or up the quality of your "acquaintances"

Trickle-down economics is the greatest lie ever sold American. Our system creates plenty of wealth but it stays at the top.

Just like "trickle up" economics created Walmart?

Government action in the market is the problem.

I'm 31. Wife is 32. Neither of us have lived with our parents since we were 18.

My generation disappoints me.

Would mean something, but fortunately there isn't a finite amount of wealth/money... so this statement means shite

Funny you say that. My sister is 4 years older than I am and to this day her room is still intact at my parents house. When I came home after my first week at Auburn when I was 18, I had to say in my sister's room because they had already thrown out all the furniture in my old room and painted it yellow. within 3 weeks it had become the guest room and none of my things were still in it.

Not to mention with a flawed healthcare system, pre obamacare and current healthcare, combined with the 2008 economic disaster we are seeing more older folks opt to keep working. Even those that have the means to retire are staying at work to have their healthcare costs covered at whatever % their employer pays.

Did you not point out how shitty that seemed?

Although, maybe they trust you'll be fine on your own while she may need them?

Oh no, not risk. everything is a risk. Marriage, kids, driving to work, flying. That's life. Deal with it. I don't know if living at home is a good or bad thing. I can't imagine it being healthy for those involved. I appreciate the tough times we are having, but this isn't something new. One of my problems with the subject age group is their apparent lack of historical perspective. You're not the first to experience all these things. Quit acting like you're the only ones to ever face a bad economy or debt, uncertainty, risk, and a bleak future. You ain't the first.
