Got crazy sick in Mexico City despite being careful, then my buddy who goes often advised to brush my teeth with bottled water. Hit me on the plane home.

All inclusive places should have their own filtration systems on property. Kinda janky if that one didn't have it. I went to the Omni Cancun a couple years ago and we were all completely fine.

I have an iron stomach. Drank from a public water fountain at Tulum without, um... repercussions.

all of my Sprite/Coke were filled with ice, I'm sure of Mexico's finest tap.
you must have a very sensitive digestive system, and I probably have a cast iron stomach from working out of the country for so many years, Mexico has really cleaned up its act over the last few decades in the area of potable water and food service, particularly in the tourist areas

ETA: when I first started going there I would even shave with bottled water

I just returned from Isla Holbox. No problem at all. I go to Mexico 1-2 times a year and drink margaritas with ice with no ill effects.

Not so fast....... Maybe some of you are going to places that are way behind times. I've been to several Central American/South American places and I've never had that issue. One time in Monteray Mexico I drank water straight out of the bucket from the well and paid for that for 3 days. Diff from an ice machine.

The rule is no vegetables that grow on or in the ground because they are probably being fertilized with shite. I saw a guy who had all the signs of a stroke from eating lettuce from an ex-pat hotel. Dude had to be air med to the UK and nearly died. He could never return to Africa after that.

I was part of a large group traveling to Acapulco years ago. We stopped at the local Shoney's and got burgers for lunch. Everyone got the burgers loaded with lettuce and tomato except me. Later that afternoon, everyone got Montezuma's revenge except for me. I remembered the advice about the vegetables and it saved me. As was already mentioned , no ice in drinks and definitely brush your teeth with bottled water too.
