I know what you're talking about but can't think of the name for anything

Yeah that was a dead period. The Shamrock/Depot had become Harvey's Dance Hall and that was a big blow. Cartoon was long dead. And Enoch's had moved to the present location which is great but much smaller than the behind-the-donut-shop location that became the current Shananigan's. Much rowdier shows at that Enoch's. I saw some great shows there, despite the lingering smell of throw-up. GG Shinn's between 18&19th might have still been open, I can't remember. When Live Oaks was MissQues there was a separate bar in the corner of the building that had a lot of metal bands. (Not The Corner Bar, that was the gay bar across the street).

well you can see why I come to these threads complaining then. That makes a lot of sense w enochs...I always hear a lot of love for it, and I never liked it cause claustrophobia hits within 5 minutes.... I could see where it would be great in a different place...Shannanigans is straight terrible.

I never heard this term used in Monroe

IIRC it was first used in a radio ad for some bar and caught on.

Enoch's is fantastic and yeah it's not some vast spread out place but that's kind of the point. I wouldn't want it to be

Do you remember the original Enoch's across the street from the Library Lounge? I saw Dash Rip Rock/LeBlanc there when I was 18 years and 1 day old. At the time I had seen a number of big names in arena shows but I had never seen anything like that shite. (I guess that was the 1st Enoch's. First one I knew.)

Alexandria does have two nice golf courses to play and bringhurst par 3 course which is cool. Oldest in America i think.

Flying out of Alex is always easy convenient as well.

Only cool place have a good beer to eat is spirits.

Monroe has a university.

Alexandria has LSU-A and a small college next door in Pineville, but there is no college life to speak of.

They are both basically the exact same place so which comes out on top?

Literally nothing alike. Better green tree hunting in Monroe, better field hunting in Alex. For ducks at least. Alex doesn't smell but I do have love for Monroe and WM, they got Slim Chicken, TP Outdoors, a good Parish shooting range. Weirdly, Delta Airlines was started there so there is some unsuspecting very old money.

ETA: I will put Tony at Veronas Italian restaurant up against any Italian restaurant in the state. Just as good as Vincents, Fausto's, Lil'Italioao, Chianti, Gino's. Then again they are all amazing. If you are ever in Alex hit up Veronas you will not regret it.

Monroe has too much crushing Baptist influence to ever feel like a college town

Ruston has always had much stricter alcohol regs than Monroe so it must have an even stronger Baptist influence.
