Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo and Police Chief Quentin Holmes are hosting a joint press conference at noon Wednesday.

The press conference is taking place on day three of a no-confidence voting period assessing Holmes' leadership.

The Local 81 Monroe Chapter of the International Union of Police Associations is conducting the vote, which can be a multi-week process.

Property crime has been an ongoing issue for quite a while, but we've seen a spike of violent crime recently too. Something definitely needs to be done. Monroe PD needs to stop focusing on revenue generation (every PD department does) with nonstop traffic tickets, hounding those leaving bars, and "your car smells like mj" and instead focusing on people breaking into houses and shooting people.

Need to take some lessons from the guys down here and learn to spot those expired inspection stickers. I mean, that's where the real public service comes in!

So does every PD in LA. I don't expect that to actually happen though. Too much money lost in actually doing their jobs to prevent and punish real crimes

Does Monroe have any statues that Jamie Mayo could remove? That might help.

Monroe PD's unwillingness to do actual police work should be laid at his feet. The next chief better be willing to make his guys get off their fat asses and investigate reported crimes.

Christ, there are people who had Apple "locate my iPhone / iPad" GPS tracking thieves down to the exact address and they still didn't want to get off their asses and do anything about it. Never crosses their mind that the thieves may be repeat offenders and that busting them for this may take them off the streets for a while, improving the city's crime stats as a whole.

Then those cowards would really have to fear going home at night. They would rather harass Joe Citizen and act like they have so much authority to tax and spend.

Christ, there are people who had Apple "locate my iPhone / iPad" GPS tracking seatbelt violations down to the exact address and they still didn't want to get off their asses and do anything about it. Never crosses their mind that the seatbelt violators may be repeat offenders and that busting them for this may take them, the cops, off the streets for a while, improving the city's crime stats as a whole.

FIFY

It's all about the seatbelts man. Remember, seatbelts save lives and all. And now that it's late July, taking those repeat offenders in for booking gets the cops inside the AC buildings.

Yep, effective policing is indoors out of the heat and away from those dangerous criminal types. If only they could do policing by either automation or work-from-home then all would be right with the world.

This^ is the way of policing in the future when it's turned over to millenials. Policing? Hey, isn't there an app for that?

Average weight of MPD officer is at least "threefiddy".

I left Monroe in 2004 for good. Do they release the racial breakdown of the people being shot these days?

Do you know me IRL? I am, sadly, one of those citizens. I tracked my iPad from the Garden District, out to MLK, to the mall, and back to MLK.

I called the cops numerous times, including every time it moved. I finally found the exact house it was it (no doubt about, only one around). I called and told the dispatcher I was parked around the corner waiting for an officer. She begged me to leave (bad part of town), and said an officer would be there in minutes.

I believed her and went home. Five hours later, a cop showed up at my door to take my report about my "missing" iPad. No one had ever gone to the house. No one had ever investigated it. They ignored all my calls. By the time he showed up, my iPad was dead.

Although, they did show up within 30 minutes of me calling to report that my car had been broken into in my driveway a few years later. I guess that's something.
