I don't understand why public schools keep trying to find ways to cram religion into schools.

Agreed. There's churches on every frickin corner, there's no reason for religion to be in public taxpayer funded schools.

I would bet many of the people speaking out in favor of the school also wrap them selves in the 2nd amendment but have no problem ignoring other portions of the constitution.

Guys, which one of us is going to tell him what a theory is?

Its voluntary, but she says her child will be "ostracized" if they don't take the class. GO FIGURE LADY, WELCOME TO A WORLD WITH A DOMINANT CULTURE ITS BEEN HERE FOR ONLY ALMOST ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY.
A classic case of "if we can't have our way, NO ONE can have it their way". Talk about immature. This is what communism is, making the standards relative to the lowest minority and making everyone abide by those standards.
For the record, I do not think having bible classes is a worthwhile public school course using the funding they receive. Churches can more than serve that purpose.

Because historically, up until the last 20-30 years, the US was largely a evangelical Christian community, and there are still communities in the US that are 100% Christian communities. Not justifying it, but if no one is complaining in their area, then its not going to be stopped.

They aren't giving extra funding to specifically fund bible classes. The schools are simply taking from the whole of the money that is given, and allocating some of it to the bible classes. Yes, they have bible classes, but maybe the kids dont get a field trip, or they dont get other classes or activities for that school that decides to have a bible class.

She should win this one easily. It's pretty well established that religious activities on public school campuses must be student driven and outside of regular school time. The fact that they have alternate classes for those who don't want to participate tells me this is during the school day. That's not appropriate.
She should be paid? How is it costing this woman ANY money at all? You're taking money from ALL the other kids because of this woman's minor inconvenience? What a crock of shite. IDGAF about separation of church and state, to give this woman any fricking money is a sham. She has a point, but she doesn't deserve to get paid.

Tax money shouldn't fund Bible study, Koran study, Scientology study, Buddhist study or any other religion in a public school.
And it shouldn't fricking fund angry moms either.

It is too bad that the world is so full of fundamentalist, herd instinct following neanderthals that constantly try to shove their fricked up beliefs onto everyone else.
The mom could move schools, and she was clearly not paying attention enough to know what was going on in the first place.

Dude. Chill. She isn't getting any money. Her remedy in this suit, which she will win assuming the school board lets it get that far, is for the class, which according to precedent and law is illegal, to be discontinued. That's it. She won't get a dime.

If the taxpayers are paying for a religion based course during hours of instruction, it absolutely shouldn't be happening. Period.
If there was a club or group that met voluntarily outside of that time period, I think it's alright to an extent. But taxpayers shouldn't be funding religion as education in any way.
That's not an anti-religion or anti-Christian sentiment. It's a case of taxpayers paying for something outside the bounds of education. If you want your child to have religion in the classroom, send them to a private school.
Money given to a school should not be spent on bible classes at the cost of other activities that include everyone. Have an after-school group if you want with a teacher volunteering, sure.

Guess it never occurred to her to STFU and mind her own damned business.
I seriously doubt the praying is mandatory.

What is "the church" that you are referring to?
Any head of any major Christian religion. The only record of any church official teaching flat earth theory were 2 little known theologians who were ignored by the church. The flat earth church allegations date back to late 1800s/early 1900s when 1 atheist was quoted as saying the church supported flat earth beliefs. This was taken as truth and run with through today.
There's a great book written by an atheist about the contributions the Chirch historically hasmade to science, particularly in areas of biology. Study of genetics, specifically, can be liked to a monk's discovery when growing pea pods. Its been a while since I read it but will see if I can find on my kindle.
I'm not an expert in this area by any means but I happen to have read a good bit last year about the flat earth allegations.
Curious - do you have a link showing where the Church actively taught flat earth beliefs? I'd be interested in reading what you have.
