Mom found 'naked and drunk' in Gran Canaria. After she's arrested for 'abandoning her kids

This is the mum who was arrested after reportedly being found 'naked and drunk' in Gran Canaria having allegedly abandoned her kids at home.

Residents reported a woman was walking "naked and drunk" in the street last Friday night and police say they have arrested Sophie Shambley, 30, because they believe her to be that woman.

Police in the Canary Islands also said the two youngsters, aged just two and four, were found in an apartment "hungry and dirty".

The late-night incident is said to have happened in the popular tourist resort of Mogan in the south-west of Gran Canaria on June 23 at about 10pm.

But Mrs Shambley's husband Shaun told the Mail Online she was in their apartment all evening on the night in question.

The local police, the Civil Guard, said the two children were found in a house in Patalavaca, one of the lesser known spots on the island.

Witnesses were said to have been shocked when they saw a naked woman walking along the street outside where she was staying "in an obvious state of drunkenness".

Children were also seen "throwing objects" from the house into the road.

“The little girl was in her crib and her nappy was full of excrement with nappy sores on her legs, a clear sign she had had the same nappy on for several hours.

“The four-year-old was crying and asking for food. Officers offered them food and water which the youngsters gratefully accepted."

The statement continues: “They also saw that the mother was laid on the bed without any clothes on and looked drunk.
