In one interview he stated US troops are committing mass suicide. His responses were many times very sarcastic. At the time I thought it was hilarious, looking back now, much respect to the man. He lied his arse off but did all that with troops basically in his backyard. Got captured at a check point but never charged with anything. Lives in United Arab Emirates now.

Looking back on it, Iraq has nothing on our collective propaganda machine.

I think on one of those briefings he said, "We have them right where we want them." Dude was amazing.

He wasn't lying, he actually believed what he was saying. He was able to rise up through the ranks because no one saw him as a threat, because he is Christian.

US intelligence analysts later concluded that Al-Sahhaf confidently made false statements because he genuinely believed in what he was saying. As the American forces approached Baghdad, the Iraqi army falsely reported that they had successfully counterattacked US forces, destroying numerous tanks and killing hundreds of American troops

It’s not a lie if you believe it.
