I have family in that area and some of them attend those balls religiously. I can't help but think of prom rejects when I see the pictures.
My metephor is that it's like they wanted champagne but couldn't afford it so they ripped the labels off of sparkling grape juice and pretend to be drunk all night. Everyone knows that they are faking it but we let them do it because it really doesn't matter.
