Meanwhile, we have a rarely used fancy brand new bridge crossing the river via hwy10 in Pointe Coupee going into St Francisville. Hahaha

Even in Mississippi, coming from Louisiana, I've been blown away by the pre-planning and construction before roads become major transportation issues. Always seemed like Louisiana was crawling to fix issues--and 20 years after the fact, at that.

OP do you even read the damn article? First you post something from 2017 and then the article isn’t even about starting construction. We aren’t starting construction or even close to that. We can’t even get funding for the project right now. It will be at least 5-10 years before anything is started.

My brother told me about this when we drove through there this past weekend on our way to Nashville. Will be really nice for that area once they finish it.

And when it's complete, we'll all be a decade older than now

If I could place a bet, it would be named after Former Senator Jeff Sessions (sarcasm [on]) the best AG ever. (sarcasm [off]).

Wondering if they keep the tunnel viable for contingencies. Would make sense on the coast I would think

Every source I have spoken to or read said the tunnel was remaining.

To the poster who said that funding had not been secured....I was under the impression that this was going to be a P3 project and that it had been secured with development underway. Is that not true?

Considering LA DoTD I think that's an optimistic date.

This job is being done as P3 so it won't take forever. Investors won't allow it.

Shelby chairs Senate Appropriations. Federal funding is in place. Turning basin is next mission. State funding, not sure, but it looks like a toll via private/public JV. Bankhead Tunnel and Cochran Bridge are the "free routes". Finish date projection is <5 years after award. Since it's a toll every day not open is losing money, therefore you can make LD's stick. GWT will possibly be abandoned. Maintenance costs. Won't need them. There's a steady leak in the west tube.
