Looking at a couple of places there for the Christmas holiday and was wondering if anyone has been before and had any input.

I've skied Taos before around christmas but there was several runs shut down because of lack of snow.

Not a skier, but I live in New Mexico.

The consensus from the locals seems to be that Angel Fire>>>>>>>>Taos for skiing. Double check and make sure they actually have snow before booking. Snow at Christmas isn't as sure a thing as it is in Colorado or Utah.

Yea do ski Taos. Good luck.. That's not an easy mountain at all. Harder than anything in Colorado. 1/3 of mountain is double blacks (am I allowed to say that?).

Taos is cool

It was one of the last resorts to allow trashy boarders on the mountain

Probably more so because they can ski it.

Oddly enough, there's a big Monroe contingent who have relocated to Taos permanently. Several baller families, related by blood or marriage.

I've been to Angel Fire & Red River. The snow can get pretty sketchy at both places, especially as early as Christmas. The skiing was better at Angel Fire, the town was cooler at Red River. Both are no where near as good as the Colorado resorts.

Angelfire was fun. Went there as a high schooler for my first time skiing. Had a great time.

That area is beautiful btw.

I think you're confused. I've been skiing the area my entire life, and I don't know of a single person that would put AF over Taos. Taos should have a ton of snow this year. They've already gotten quite a bit.

Check out today's webcam. Already a ton of snow for early November.

We used to go to Red River every year during Spring break and the snow was always hit or miss. Sometimes you would be skiing in the 60s.

The snow probably won't be that great in December.

Taos was great 3 years ago at Christmas

Stayed in SF NM and drove over

Took the kids to wolf creek last year, it was good as well.

I went up to Red River, NM a few years back and had a great time. The little town seems like the town in the movie Out Cold, and the people were pretty friendly. We went for a tandum ski mobile tour the first day and then snowboarder for the rest. Although I thought it was perfect I've heard there are places in Colorado that make it seem like a dump but it was fairly inexpensive and would be ideal for families to ski and whatever.
