We were considered the weird ones for the hazing being literally just chores.

Our chapter president once was able to get another fraternity’s secrets then went up to that chapter’s president, told them, and said that fricking with someone’s head is more effective than physical hazing.

Didn’t help that the pledges in question were chasing pussy and told our president’s sister that her sorority and their fraternity had certain things in common, which he managed to trick her out of.

Maybe parents should drink with their son until the boy gets drunk so that he can safely learn when it’s time to stop drinking. This shite just shouldn’t be happening.

You do understand there are parents and other people on the world that don’t drink.

While this is a sad situation and Fiji will get all the blame, most of the responsibility should fall on the pledge. It won’t happen though. He can easily say no and walk away.

Peer pressure is very powerful thing among males of this age group. They will do things as part of a group that they would never do as a individual, especially if trying to become accepted as part of that group. There is a reason the draft age is 18 and not 25, guys of that age will die before they will let their buddies down.

There are multiple types of hazing.

Mentally screwing with someone is far more effective than beating the shite out of them, making them do scut work, or having them drink until they are in a fricking coma.

Our chapter president did what he did to make a point to the other chapter that what they were doing wasn’t effective for what they intended it to do.

It is. But really isn’t illegal.

I know when I want a friend for life, I try to engage in psychological torture to get them to understand how good of a friend I am.

Not going to deny he was dysfunctional.

Point was that the secrets of an organization are supposed to stay secret and a few dumbfricks were spilling the beans in a vain attempt to get laid.

Or did the media just not pick up on it?

We mostly drank beer. It's hard to drink enough beer at one sitting to get that level of alcohol in your system. Plenty of guys did stupid shite that could and occasionally did have major consequences but I never knew of anybody to get alcohol poisoning like that.

Not going to deny that either. There is a reason I haven’t talked to him in over 10 years and didn’t talk to him for probably as long or longer before that.

It really is a revelation the first couple of years after you leave home. You run into people who will steal even though they have plenty of money, people who will lie when it's just as easy to tell the truth, guys who would rather force a girl to have sex than find one who's willing. And, in this case, help a friend drink himself nearly to death. You never look at people quite the same after about age 21.

His body, his choice. Sucks this happened, but we all make choices and are responsible for those choices. Now, after it happened, if someone knew he needed help and didn't offer it, they should be held accountable for that. For the drinking, unless he was physically forced to drink or drank under threat of violence, that's on him.

Binge drinking permanently ruins lives among college students and doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
