I am pretty sure it was the 2010 New Orleans marathon. Landreiu ran the half marathon. There was two different finish lines in city park, one for the full marathon, and one for the half marathon. The guy that finished the full marathon passed the finished line, then Mitch crossed second. His run was rerouted for a photo op, without any announcement that he ran the half marathon. By the time Landreiu passed the full marathon finish line, the runners that actually were crossing the half marathon finish line were numerous. So Mitch’s finish was rerouted so he could be alone for his “photo finish”. I am a lifelong Democrat, in favor of those statues coming down, and I don’t even like Mitch.

It was a farce. People at the finish line were led to believe that Landreiu finished second in the marathon, when he actually finished in the middle of the pack of the half marathon. I commented on it in the TIMES PICAYUNE online story. And a spokesman for Landreiu stated that since the finish line at the half marathon was congested, Mitch was escorted to the finish of the full marathon for a better photo shot.
