Remember, it is scientists who are researching everything from cancer to Parkinson’s. Be careful on labeling scientists as a whole in a negative light. You may end up owing your life to one.

Want to be jaded about COVID, fine. But generally marking science as fake news is not smart.

The problem is 95% with mainstream media and 5% with actual scientific institutions.

Arguing anti-maskers need more scientific literacy is to characterize their approach as uninformed & inexplicably extreme. This study shows the opposite: they are deeply invested in forms of critique & knowledge production they recognize as markers of scientific expertise"
So what does scientific research say about masks?

Then pay attention to the 5%. No one is making you watch the news. The world is trying to get back to normal. There are interest that still want you afraid of either the virus or you loosing freedoms. Both sides are winning by keeping you in a state of fear.
Fear is the key

Let's not disregard the fallibility of the scientific institutions here

When there is new research that might oppose scientific consensus or thought, it is often treated with more skepticism, often delayed publishing, or more research is deemed necessary

And this is where the distrust from the institutions comes from

And the sensitivity in which these opposing thoughts are treated isn't so much due to conspiracy or the want for control of thought, but moreso the thought that the general public wouldn't or can't understand how all data fits together and how to interpret competing theories as a whole

The problem is half the population worships scientific institutions, and doesn't seem to understand science.

its not sacred.

Replace the population with you and science with economics and you're actually right for a change.

:sigh: without derailing this thread, in which I've enjoyed so far, I'll explain

Your post clearly demonstrates that you did no "critical analysis" of the paper, as the conclusion of the paper, in no way, supports or even hints at your conclusion.

Therefore, the only logical conclusion would be that you accepted the authority of this paper, or more accurately, the OP, unquestioned.

Just listen to Bret Weinstein talk about today's scientific community, and peer review politics, and it will give you an idea of why even people as smart as him do not blindly trust scientists.

Medical masks that get discarded after every use have been shown to help protect medical field workers when studies focus specifically on highly contagious outbreaks. These are typically used over short periods of time while in close proximity to people infected.

Cloth masks worn incorrectly over and over by the public for hours at a time do absolutely nothing. Disposable are only slightly better if used once and correctly then discarded correctly as well. The public, rather than being educated on what masks work and how they should work, are simply told to mask up! with very few other instructions.

Wrong.

There's literally nothing to the piece except to explain that people who question the status quo are not Neanderthals, like our President said.

This is a universal truth.

Here's all the science I needed. Back in March 2020 when I saw Tom Hanks and his wife chatting it up while infected with this plague, and the media immediately begin putting blame on Trump and trying to tank the economy with their fear mongering I knew exactly what this was all about.

14 months, zero masks, zero social distancing, zero personal restrictions later I've still yet to know and or even know of a single healthy person under the age of 85 who has been affected by this virus in any way.
