Mississippi is America's cheapest state in which to live

Not really surprised, but I don't think it's all that meaningful. Probably, most parts of Mississippi are about the same cost-wise as most parts of Louisiana... there just isn't any New Orleans there to up the state-wide averages:

Also probably the poorest so all things being equal...
But if you are already rich then hey, money will go further.

Usually places are cheap to live in because no one wants to live there.

I want to say they're one of the only states that won't tax you on retirement income? (as far as states that have income taxes that is)

Define CHEAP...Living in Wyoming or Idaho or Montana seems like it would be rather cheap to live in... Nice and easy ,peaceful, No crime, beautiful scenery.......... Traffic is a no issue..........

People hate on MS a lot, but there are some really neat little places to live. I've always liked Ocean Springs and Pass Christian. The parts north of the coast remind me of North east Louisiana, which has to be the most miserable place on earth.

Nope. Louisiana has NOLA, BR, LC, Shreveport, Monroe, Laffy, and Alexandria that all have nice suburbs but Mississippi has Madison and Rankin county, the suburbs of Memphis and Hattiesburg. Ms also has lower property taxes. When you combine state and local sales taxes for MS it comes to 7.07% vs 8.91% for Louisiana.

I agree, Napoleon. Life on the Coast is quite good. Home prices are relatively low, and where else could I enjoy that Coast lifestyle so reasonably?
Don't venture north of I-10, though. There are a few pockets of nice places (Natchez, Oxford, etc.), but it is mostly awful.

There's a difference in living and living well.

I was just in the burg. It feels different around there. The minorities appeared to be much politer and well behaved.

Not surprising. Your dollar goes real far here. The problem is there aren't a lot of dollars floating around.

I stopped at the Taco Bell in Columbia on my way to Hatti and holy shite I thought the chick in the speaker was white. Most polite and well spoken 300lb black chick I have ever seen. I was seriously excited and felt there may be hope after all. Who knew it would be in Mississippi
