The 19 people that lived there were justly compensated.

There was 1,000's in lower Plaquemines Parish (Port Sulphur and down). Don't remember what the population was before Katrina but it is about a 1/4 or less now compared to before Katrina.

I wonder for how many people that experience was the first time they ever texted. I know it was for me.

It was for me too. When I was down here working it was the only way I could stay in touch with my wife in Baton Rouge.

This may deserve it's own thread. Just something random I've been thinking about lately. How much different would it have been if smart phones were everywhere like they are today? If you remember, texting wasn't nearly as popular in 2005 as it is today. That was the only way I could keep in contact with my family because calls just weren't going through. Plus you have things like Facebook and Twitter now so information would've been everywhere.

One of the few places you could text in Gulfport was at Hwy 49 and I10. You would see a ton of people standing on I10 texting their family.

If I was someone from out of the country following Katrina anniversary news, I wouldn't even know the storm hit Mississippi with the way the national media has covered it this week

lived about half a mile off the beach in Long Beach when it hit.

We handled our shite afterwards and got on with it. Rode the gator down to the high school for ice and MRE's, but that was all the assistance we got. That was all we needed.

Cool.

You weren't allowed to enter new Orleans after the storm

MS coastal towns

If people don't know that MS coastal towns are on the coast of MS, then I feel sorry for this nation.

Yes, that was the first time I'd ever texted. Had to learn quick.

The Robin Roberts special was like half about Bay St. Louis.
Great report by Robin Roberts. You could tell she was "one of us" rather than some outside reporter pushing some agenda. Good call.

If you know anything about my posting habits, you'd know I'm the opposite of a troll. I'm interested in this storm and the history behind it.

a-hole Internet toughguy. Look out now.
