Don't do pretrial for an mip. That would be a huge waste of money.
Agreed. Pretrial intervention costs a good bit, but then you have to pay other fees for the classes and your "counselor" who won't actually counsel you on anything. Ends up being closer to $1200. Don't do it.
ETA: Plus the additional $500 it costs to get it expunged from your record after all the other fees.

America - land of the free...except that every other 1st world county treats 18 year olds like adults. What a waste of cops time.

Cops are all over the place on LSU gamedays specifically looking for MIPs. I've never seen it so bad on any other campus.

Just read the statute for MIP...
That's absolute BS that they can take your license away for 180 days, or even send you to jail for six months. I would say Louisiana is backwards, but no more so than the rest of the country in that regard.
I always made sure to do my heavy drinking in NOLA, where I have never heard of anyone ever getting MIP.
It's really retarded that you need to be 21 to drink in this country. Thanks MADD.

Been there, done that - several years ago of course.
Just pay the fine, and take the class. It's a bullshite MADD class. I say it's bullshite because it doesn't really apply to a MIP.

Easy money. It's the pedestrian version of a vehicle checkpoint.

$460 for 20 minutes work?
Shoot, do ten a day, even if you have set up a few kids with empty cups ("I smell alcohol in there") and that's a good day's work.

Eta- I always thought it was stupid to call it MIP, I mean I assume the OP is not a minor.
Are you thinking of an open container ticket? Why a cop give a 21 yo a MIP?

I was recently at a conference kinda thing and we had to listen to two douchebags from the JUDE task force talk for like an hour. All they did was tell stories of busting high school kids at house parties and show slides of all the booze the confiscated. You could hear the eyes rolling in the room as everyone in there knew that these guys were a joke, but they took their job very seriously. What a bunch of pieces of shite. I'm still not sure why they were there or what the point of the presentation was but they were very proud of themselves.

I always assumed a minor was someone that was 17 years or younger
Yet here, 18 year olds are considered minors...I mean, are we sending minors overseas to fight for us? Do minors vote? Yet these guys can't drink... Mind boggling.

MIP on LSU gameday
An undercover cop tried to give me one before. He gave my friend one and then started asking me questions and filling in a piece of paper and I asked what I was being given a ticket for, he said "MIP". I asked how this was possible if I was 21.

State. They were bitching about their budget getting cut. I could hear everyone thinking "why do you have a budget?" All they do is shake down kids for money, it seems like it would be self sustaining.
