This is the world we live in.

quote:

Miniature horses are in, for now. But capuchin monkeys are on shakier ground.

The U.S. Department of Transportation said Wednesday that it will work to make sure “the most commonly used service animals (i.e., dogs, cats, and miniature horses)” are still allowed on flights, despite increased efforts by airlines to crack down on fraudulent assistance critters of all kinds.

quote:

While “airlines are never required to accept snakes, reptiles, ferrets, rodents, sugar gliders, and spiders,” the department said Wednesday, it “intends to exercise its enforcement discretion by focusing its resources on ensuring that U.S. carriers” continue to welcome canines, felines and smallish equines.

Are Mini-horses common service animals? Any of you baws flown with a fricking horse blocking the aisle?
quote:

The document noted that “miniature horses have specific features that make them a better choice for some persons with disabilities — longer working life, allergen avoidance, religious conformance, and soundness of structure for mobility work.”

If you need a damn horse as a service animal, you can ride your damn horse to your destination. we cannot be saved at this point.

An airline could do well if they make public policy of refusing all service animals except seeing eye dogs

The emotional support shite needs to stop

Service animals are different from therapy animals. Only dogs and mini horses can be actual service animals. The reason the minis are becoming more popular is their life span. It takes a long time to train an actual service animal (these actually do something) and they are very expensive. A horse will give a person many more years of help than a dog. This is not to be confused with emotional support animals which is a thing that is getting beyond ridiculous.

Mini horses are the size of a lot of dogs.

I have never even heard of a mini horse being used as a service animal, yet today I found out that they are common.

there aren't "a lot" of dogsthat weigh 150 lbs (what Google says is the low end for mini horse weight...)

Mini horses are also a great option if the person needing a service animal is allergic to dogs, doesn't like dogs, or if their religion prohibits them having a dog (ex: Muslims consider dogs unclean animals).

I don't have an issue with mini horses....they aren't bogus "comfort animals" but highly trained to do the job they are supposed to do.

What's going to happen the first time one of these mini horses takes a mini crap in an airplane full of people?

Guess it just sucks for you if you have an allergy and have to sit next to some wannabe-PTSD with a hairy animal.

Again, these are actual service animals that perform tasks, not emotional support animals.

THIS
If you are too damaged to fly on an airplane without a horse, you shouldn't be on a plane. Just pop a xanax like the rest of us.

There is definitely a need for SOME people to have them, and the ones that are legit I have no problems with. The problem is that nowadays any ol frick can go online and get a certificate which ruins it for the real people.

You do know the difference between a highly trained service animal and one of the bogus "support" animals?

I hope you aren't saying frick you to blind people or other disabled people that want a service dog to help them live more independent lives.

Went to a real estate class last week where the topic of service animals came up. Apparently as a realtor, if a buyer with a service animal wants to look at a house you can't tell them they can't bring the animal inside the home.

Can't imagine allowing a fricking mini horse to walk around a sellers home

Let us not forget some of the posters on here Aspy. They don't do too well when presented with real facts. And their reading comprehension sucks.
