Good point. Service animals are very different than therapy/emotional support animals.

I spent 45 minutes talking about it with a woman at work who walks around with a very well-trained golden retriever as a therapy animal. I understand it can help people and be a good thing. I get it. But like you said, it's also ridiculous. Because almost anything could be considered as providing emotional support.

Service animals are for people that are blind or have other impairments. Mini horses aren't a bad idea. They're also smaller than some dog breeds.

Most of the “emotional support” animals I see are purely to get around pet deposits and breed restrictions.

I have no issue if something is actually needed. I just don’t generally run into that. You would not believe how good pits apparently are for emotional support

There is definitely a need for SOME people to have them, and the ones that are legit I have no problems with.

Examples of legit “emotional support” animals?

The topic is service animals, not just "emotional support". Some of these animals can sense things like seizures or blood issues coming on in advance, it's crazy. Of course nowadays those people are probably only like 5% of the ones you see and the rest are frauds.

What needs to actually happen is some regulatory body needs to only recognize certain companies or entities that issue actual, legitimate certificates, and airlines should only accept animals certified by those (and the pepole must present the certification on-site). If you have a certificate you printed off from a website after a 10 minute test showing you "have anxiety", sorry lady you're out of luck.

What if my miniature horse needs a service monkey that rides him? Oh, and the monkey has a support parakeet. We still cool?

I fly a lot, but have never sighted a miniature horse yet.

Could you have a monkey as a co-service animal?

If so, I would love to see a monkey dressed as a cowboy riding a miniature horse down the aisle. That would make my trip as long as they sat somewhere behind me and the monkey didn't fling poo.
