Very good response for a first post.

Threads like these could be a component of drug screens. Late night analysis of everyday commonalities - the pots are involved.

The little man in the boat could not be found, and was, therefore, unable to comment.

The fricking around equals the finding out

No, it's, "The frick, the find out."

I am embarrassed that I have never thought of this before. It's clearly a different usage, and no one says anything about it.

Or better still: The more you frick around, the more you find out.

The more you think about it, the more sense it makes.

This is actually very very very cool
I love etymology listened to a whole podcast on it
Similar things like most languages came from proto-indo-european
Germanic underwent a "W" shift while most original roots retained the "Q" sound
It's why most "european" languages for lack of a better term the who where what's are all "que."
Qui?
Que?
Quoi?
But in English it's "who" "where" "what"?
------
Dropping the "u" from words like "colour" and such was done in Webster's dictionary strictly to be "American". It was just done deliberately.
------
Webster to his dying day was adamant that the correct spelling of "acre" was "aker"
------
The word "ghost" comes from the same roots that make "guest" and "host". And in fact in early languages "guest" and "host" WERE the same word. There was no distinction between who was hosting and who was staying there as the guest. It was more of a dual relationship.... which I always thought was cool.
------
Black and white share the same root
------
I have tons more useless etymological facts
