Yeah, and it has been that way for that segment of the population for a long time. Those aren't unique problems to millennials.

Most of your close friends probably have degrees too, but it doesn't change the fact that most - 2/3rds or so - millennials do not have bachelor degrees. For the umpteenth time in this thread, the little bubbles we all live in don't mean jack shite to the overall averages

Well, maybe it's time to move on, quit that retail job, find a new location and learn how to work with their hands.

There are Hispanics with no legal papers here making 6 figs and becoming middle class.

Exactly NO ONE said that in the 80s. Revisionist history is always the best when you're full of shite and don't want to admit it, though.

Well, ya'll keep voting for Democrats. That's why you keep getting screwed.

But vote for 'em again! You won't have to worry about finding a job, 'cause you'll be drafted into the Army and sent to the Eastern Front to fight the Russkies!

The USA will have FULL employment during World War Three, so you have that to look forward to, which is nice.

One thing that boomers didn't have to deal with is fricking HR - I will give millennials kudos for navigating this bullshite.

If you wanted a job in the past, you got your resume, walked in to the business, talked to the manager, filled out an application, and waited.

These days you have to fill out lengthy online applications (that can often take 1+ hours), and a computer automatically sorts through them. It doesn't matter that you may have a bad arse work ethic, if you don't have "3-5 years experience", you aren't even getting an interview.

Honesty from my interactions with millennialis they aren't that bad. It's mostly just on here and in the media.

But I'm a young gen xer (late 70s) so that may be why

Forgot to drop this gem in here too.

"The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise"

Socrates said that in 400 BC. shite never changes.

Millennial here 28 live at home with my parents ever since I moved back from college. 6 hours away from bachelors in general studies. Didn't finish my hours yet for the bachelor degree (plan on going back soon to finish) instead I chose to go to the technical college for process technology got into what I'm doing now 4 years ago make over 100k a year. Got on first place I applied with no experience (Plant). I make more than both my parents do. I dont have any debt. I could easily move out afford what I need too but I chose this path because I think it's best for my future and my family that I will have one day once my girlfriend finishes college and when I think it's time to settle down. But I have chosen / my parents convinced me not to move out right away when I moved back home to finish up school and simply rather keep stocking away as much money toward retirement and for my house etc. I'm not soft or weak are think I'm entitled to things nor do I think I deserve everything. So everybodies situation is different not all millennials are the same.

A few months ago, I applied for a job that required a degree and fab shop experience. During the interview, it was explained that it would be primarily keeping the shop clean (emptying trash, sweeping, moving stuff around). What kind of bullshite is that?

It's called getting your foot in the door. That job wasn't beneath you and you blew a great opportunity to work your way up in a company. Opportunity looked you in the face and you spit on it.

That's nothing new. You know why I started in the warehouse at my first job? No experience in the industry. Made shite money. Have a college degree. Finally moved into inside sales and progressed from there.
Point is, sometimes you have to take a position- even if it isn't what you want, what you think your qualified for, or isn't the money you expect- just to get going.

Even if wages were exactly equal boomers didn't have to pay:

Cell phone bill
Cable bill
Internet bill

the irony is that you don't HAVE to have any of those three. I have friends that have no interest and no cable because they choose to. They have cell phones because they choose to. None of those are required.

quote:

Massive car insurance
Health insurance

You need both of those but you can get a crap car with liability insurance and pay next to nothing for it. As for Health insurance, you used to be able to get reasonably cheap insurance, not sure if you can now. Lots of people find it cheaper not to have any at all.

Also, companies invested in their employees. Now a company demands you have years of experience for entry level jobs.

I will agree with that but it has been this way for 25 years. Not a new thing.

The biggest issue I see with the younger generation as an employer is this: they want premium money for very little responsibility and little work. I have a concrete company that mainly does municipal work on the civil side and have openly told my crew that I would love to bump one of them to a foreman and they damn near fight each other to claw their way down the ladder to not get the responsibility and yet bitch about not making enough money.

bullshite. We were told that all that time. Back in the 80s Gen X was suppose to be the first generation to do worse than their parents since the Civil War. I wish I had a nickel for it everytime I heard that, I wouldn't need a 401k.

The only ones full of shite is Millenials that want everybody to feel sorry for them and give them a handout. Millenials need to quit acting like a bunch of whiny arse brats and learn that life is tough. You're not the only generation who ever had it hard. Learn to deal with it.

Of course it's new. Boomers didn't apply online and have their job applications filtered through algorithms.

You showed up dressed sharp with firm handshake and made a first impression. Then you went through the application process actually meeting someone in person. This makes a world of difference.

I really struggled to find a job after I got out of the Marines. I had a spreadsheet to keep track of all my jobs and I applied to over 100 of them (I was overqualified for many), I would do anything. Hell I even got turned down at Starbucks!

I said frick the online applications, printed out my resume, and started applying in person. I would ask to speak to the manager, give them my pitch, and hand over my resume. They would always tell me I would have to apply online, but at least I had a better chance. I imagine my resume still got filtered out a bunch but eventually I got a job. I was told that my in person application was a major factor in me getting an interview.

By the way, I'm not bringing this up as an excuse, I'm just saying that the application process is harder. Some of the online applications take hours.

Your generalizations are weak shite. Sure, a lot of millennials and snowflakes (those born post 1990) are weak, but I served in the Marines with 90% millennials and they were all pipe hitters.

Yeah, I don't know what industry you work in but I couldn't do my job without a smartphone and hi speed internet at home.

Cable is not a necessity.
