This is just another propaganda article aiming to separate the people of the USA.
You gathered this from an article from a London based newspaper that didn't even mention the US specifically.

Yep not married no child. Not saying I don't want those things. I just see the financial requirements involved and wont just knock up any random woman with no career.
Nail on the head. A lot of people cannot get upward mobility due to having kids so early on. I also feel this generation needs a lot of structure. Go to an area where you have below average education and nothing productive to do and you find the youth just stuck.

That’s on their own doing

103 is upper middle class in Nashville?
Guess I’m not replying. My family and I are no longer middle class.
I need to call my father now. Look dad! I did it! We did it! Better go write my thank you speech.

Gen X is fricking sick of the shite that comes out of both the Boomers and the Millennials.
It's old selfish and new selfish fighting.
Oh well. Whatever. Nevermind.

They've always had to make choices, some more difficult than others yet none regarding which shanty they'd congregate in for the night. Temper expectations and one will do fine.
t's just hard to balance pay and cost of living when industries tend to congregate in certain areas.

It's weird, because so many people are doing it.
When you limit areas to live its going to affect your quality of life tremendously. There's a reason people buy "Starter homes" and such, or sacrifice out of college to save up a down payment.
These are things people did 40 years ago.

I’m 31 and see a lot of this for people around my age: They don’t want to just take a corporate job that they could work up the ladder and set themselves up for financial security and higher earnings down the road. They would rather dabble in various jobs they find actual interest in, but with little path to financial growth.
That’s their right and there’s nothing “wrong” with it. Personally, I chose the soulless corporate ladder path and choose to pursue my interests in the little bit of free time I have, with the hope that after my kid becomes completely financially independent when I’m around 55, i will be sitting pretty financially and can perhaps finish my career on my own terms doing something I love like teaching a high school class and coaching the basketball team, or writing, or getting involved in political campaigns, or whatever it is I want to do where I no longer need to be making bank.

I consider middle class in the 150k to 350k range. Of course that's a sliding scale depending on what market you reside in.

Our first home was 20-25 miles out in the country because it's where we could afford something at the time. It was 1375 sq ft for a family of 4. I don't see a willingness to live like this in many cases today with younger people. To each their own I suppose.

Yeah, some guy with a promising career is just gonna move to bawcomville just so he can buy a house for $180k.

Make Better Decisions, Then
That CNBC article can help explain why. Don't have kids before you're married and graduate high school. This isn't hard, folks.

You can buy a house in a lot of areas in the South and Midwest for 150k or less

Jesus. I tended bar in college and cleared that. Worked 50 hours a week or so... This was only 6 years ago.
It really is not that hard. Develop a marketable skill set. Work hard. Don't spend what little you do make on dumb shite.
Work as if you are owed nothing. Because, fun fact, you aren't owed a damn thing.
