who somehow don't realize that home ownership comes with quite a bit of fire lighting on its own that should be accounted for.

I agree, but it also comes with knowing the price won't be raised on them based on demand. Of course, I am assuming some sort of fixed mortgage. It all comes down to particular wants and needs.

Frankly, I think we are on the same page.

Oh I think we are too. I think in most cases we're talking past each other to address other people/arguments.

Like I said, I didn't buy my first home until 38. Granted I shacked up with the old lady in her place for about three years before that, but I rented up until then. I was military, but I wasn't one of those dudes who got the cheap place and pocketed his BAH. I always lived in a nice place close to the social hubs wherever I lived.

But for me now renting is just financially stupid. Especially being married. Just need to renovate the wife's house and get that rented.

i was going to bring this up earlier. the fixed cost of a mortgage, even if it's a "bad" deal initially, is a factor

esp when location and renting are so intertwined

Sure, but that little bit of price security is payment for the risk you take in not being able to move if shite goes sideways. Drug dealer moves in across the street and paints the house hot pink and then your area floods for the first time in a century? Good luck.

If my rent goes up, I can just move

Pfft. I just move, buy a new house, and become a Section 8 slumlord.

I would also throw out there that those renting in the city probably spend $300/month or so more on entertainment. This is just a guess

Jesus. When was the last time you went out? I'll spend $300 this weekend alone.

Tis a good life. I have friends with 3 young kids and their childcare costs make me cringe.

Good point. My typical "night out" is sonic for the son and take out sushi for the daughter, wife and I.

What they're feeling is the massive increase in luxuries like high speed internet, smart phones

Both of these things are required by almost all jobs. It's not really a luxury if you're forced to have it. Besides that, internet is a utility. Utilities are not luxuries. (I'll say things like gigabit fiber, etc is a luxury ofc)

Woman empowerment. You pay exorbitantly for strangers to raise your kids. And I’m doing that exact same thing now

If you're required to have a smart phone by your job, they're paying for it, and the internet is not a necessity.

Yes it is. Everything is done via email. Jobs are applied for online instead of with paper applications. As much as you hate to admit it, the internet is required to both find a job, and do most jobs

More power to them. If my wife makes enough for me to not work, I'll still have a nanny so I can play golf.

And literally seconds after I posted this, my wife calls and tells me she got a promotion. God is watching out for me.

If you have to email remotely as a requirement of your job, your employer will furnish you with a smart phone. If you need the internet to find a job, your home is not the only place where the internet is available. If the internet is necessary for you to complete your job, it will be provided at your place of employment

That would require effort which we have already established they don't like.
