what life is life for those with only a highschool diploma
Learn a skilled trade and you will make more than most with a college degree.
My dad only had a high school education and and retired more than comfortably.
My oldest brother only has a high school diploma and makes six figures
My other brother only has a high school degree and makes around $200k. He gets calls daily about new job opportunities.
Of course, none of them sat around complaining. They put their pants on and went to work.

I have a friend who bought a new townhouse in Houston under $300k and it's a new development in the middle of the ghetto.

So don't live in those areas?

Move somewhere cheaper or stop complaining about the cost

Unless you are in a very specialized field your job probably exists in Fayetteville, Kansas City, Huntsville, Wichita etc

You aren't. Those are 2 different generations.

Hell have an engineering (any), chemistry, or any sort of bioscience degree and you'll have more job offers than you know what to do with in Huntsville.

My wife is from B'Ham but has family in Huntsville. I'm in IT but we've considered moving to the area in the past.

Most Americans live in these metros. It's not really reasonable to ask a plurality of young people to move to the midwest so they can buy a house.
I'm not doing a millennials have it so rough thing... but there's a lot of disconnect on this board. Millennials might not be making the best decisions as a whole, but the housing thing has become more difficult than back in the day. Most public schools are trash compared to the 70s, finding a modest house in a decent area is becoming increasingly difficult, there are a lot of moving parts.

He stated facts and didn't complain at all. Jesus.
Sure, but in a lot of cases like at my company, your advancement opportunities are greatly diminished.
I don't know why you older people keep mistaking stating facts as complaining.
I like living in the city, but I'm not going to pay $400k+ for a 1200 sqft house. I don't want to move out to a mcmansion in the burbs because I like the city. I can afford rent on my townhouse just fine and pay all of my bills, pay plenty into retirement and savings, and I have 0 student loan debt.
You can state a fact that home prices are high for a small, old house without that being crying about it.

Good chunk of IT jobs as well. Just the nature of the industry in Huntsville which is heavily IT reliant.
I'm honestly considering moving back in a year or two. The Cybersecurity jobs keep multiplying and I'd have the benefit of having the professional connections I don't have here in Cola.

Why buy a house you don’t want in an area you don’t want to live in?
On the other hand, be OK with renting for a little longer until you can afford to buy where you want and don’t complain about cost.

A lot of people here have seriously issues with discussing things with people from other generations. It becomes tribalistic.

"Hahaha look at this millennial who has enough money to do what he wants and is actually doing it!!!"
Sorry you live a miserable life.
Living a life and actually doing what you enjoy is never a bad thing unless you can't afford it.

I dont understand how moving to the fricking midwest is a valid argument here atm

Posted on 4/12/19 at 8:50 am to TH03
glad we agree, it's your choice to live where you want and pay for it

Because despite perceptions, there is plenty of affordable housing and jobs in the midwest?

I wasn't saying you were complaining. Simply that a lot of the talk in this thread has been about the high cost of housing in expensive housing markets.
I couldn't have afforded a house in Denver in my late 20s or early 30s either. For most, it's a choice to live in those areas. To each their own but it may limit/delay your home ownership potential until later in life or you'll end up 45 minutes out in the burbs.
